Yeah, that was the joke.

Yep, and folks don't know how so-called "AI" services work, and thus have no way of knowing what's in the proverbial sausage, or for that matter how librarians provide the answers they come up with instead.

Unknown unknowns get you every time.

Building a culture is a lot of work, especially if the culture you are currently working in encourages other (less useful) (more profitable) (insert downside here) options. A lot of people don't know what they don't know about libraries or LLMs.

I'd argue that we already have librarians, and libraries already have websites. What we need is for people to know this is a service libraries provide. A lot of that comes down to communication and building a culture where people reach out to the library for information services.

So what is your argument here?

Instead of asking chatgpt, why not ask a librarian? You'll get real answers and they won't tell you to kill yourself.

*sigh*
If your Kickstarter video/image is AI, I won't back it.
If your book has an AI cover, I won't read it.
If you're a public supporter of AI use for creative work, I will unfollow you.
I cannot stress enough how offensive I find AI use in the arts. It is outright theft, it is lazy, it is gross.

Remember that Enterprise's warp drive was disabled during the first fight, and they don't restore warp drive until the end of the second battle. So either the Mutara Nebula is really really close to Ceti Alpha V, or that stern chase went on for much longer than the movie suggests.

Hey, here's something for my fellow Trekkies that they might have not thought about before: Just how far from Ceti Alpha V is the Mutara Nebula in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan? #StarTrek #StarTrekII #TheWrathOfKhan #SciFiWritersHaveNoSenseOfScale

Me when Expedia needs to put me on a brief hold:

In order to best service you our customer, we will need to put you on a brief hold of up to two minutes. Clear your schedule for the next hour because this is going to be the longest two minutes of your fucking life.

Thank you for calling Expedia customer support. We value your call, and that is why we use the badly-modulated sound of a saxophone player being murdered by a goose with a respiratory infection as our hold music.

Well, reenlisted for one last time. Seemed like a good idea the last couple of times so I figured why not?

There is no better argument for the USA needing high speed rail than literally any occasion where you have to call an airline about a flight you booked.

I'm not saying that James Vance has been struggling lately because people won't address him by his legal name, but maybe the demeaning nickname of "JD" is making it difficult for folks to take him seriously.

One of the comments to this is like β€œof all the things to be mad about, not being able to get a credit card is low down the list” and y’all being able to leave shitty men is so important and cannot be done without money.

I'd rather listen to bad disco than mediocre country.

Artemis II
Leslie J. Anderson

When Prometheus gave us fire
this is the kind of thing he hoped for,
not the blood on our hands but
the burn of the rockets bright as the light
in our eyes. Surely he saw
in us the willingness to be torn asunder
again and again, to send our bodies out
against the talons of the universe
to come home, wrap our arms around
each other and sing, rejoice!
There is still no end of the world!

The successful return of the #Artemis crew reminds of our favorite genre of JFK: trying to talk to astronauts who have just splashed down! After #NASA astronaut Scott Carpenter had been recovered his orbital flight, JFK had *some* difficulty in calling him due to the technology of the day.
