In the midst of fatal shootings by federal agents of two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis, a Democratic state senator from Missoula is proposing legislation to limit the way law enforcement officers operate in Montana, report @dailymontanan.com and @statesnewsroom.com
I really don't understand why USC 18 s. 242 (deprivation of rights under color of law) and USC 18 s 1117 (conspiracy to commit murder) aren't being more widely discussed and/or invoked by prosecutors around the US.
brass solidarity band performing “stand by me” in the streets of whittier next to alex pretti’s memorial. the crowd started chanting “the people united will never be defeated” so they incorporated it into the song. i love minneapolis
Washington DC is roughly 2,122 times smaller than Montana, with just over 8000 more SNAP beneficiaries. DC has committed to funding the SNAP shortfall. Montana (proudly) has not. This is a shameful dereliction of public service.
I have continued my 25-year winning streak (with one slip up near Kalispell in 2006) of keeping alligators out of Montana. Only I could have accomplished this. It wasn't that hard, but everybody is thanking me for it. I'm being nominated for the Nobel Prize in Pest Control.
18 USC § 242 is our friend. States can use it. Which one will find the courage to be first?
Serious question: has the Fed govt ever arrested so many elected officials in such a short period of time, across multiple cities, and not for legit corruption reasons?
This seems like a distinct degree of anti-democratic escalation.

Rodrick Johnson, 67, is one of many residents who were detained by federal agents during the South Shore raid. A U.S. citizen, he said agents broke through his door and dragged him out in zip ties. Johnson said he was left tied up outside the building for nearly three hours before agents finally let him go. “I asked [agents] why they were holding me if I was an American citizen, and they said I had to wait until they looked me up,” Jones said. “I asked if they had a warrant, and I asked for a lawyer. They never brought one.”
What DHS pulled in Chicago on Tuesday is wildly unconstitutional. They smashed down almost every door in the building, dragged entire families into the street, and detained people for hours ("Kavanaugh stops").
Ms. Fisher was held for five hours and another senior citizen was held for three hours.
The average salary for a state employee is around $56K, benefits on top of that (29% of salary) making it $72K for direct personnel costs. Add in overhead costs (office space, admin infrastructure, indirect costs) and you're looking at $100K per employee. This adds $5M/yr to Medicaid admin costs.
Here's a suggestion to improve Bluesky: an AI-driven filter that allows you to hide any posts containing words or phrases for 24 hours. The use case is, "As a Bluesky user I want to remove any mention of Charlie Kirk so that I won't feel like breaking things to allow me to temporarily feel better."

No, but "Knapweed is the Devil" and "Toadflax Seduction" would also be contenders.
I hope the session opened with that catchy anthem, "Field Bindweed and Creeping Bellflower Must Die"
The last King I admired was Murray The Sturgeon King who passed away in 2000. The end of a magnificent era.
BREAKING: A fucking ICE agent rammed into a car full of U.S. citizens—then fled the scene. LAPD confirms it. This wasn’t a routine stop. This was state-sanctioned racial profiling turned felony hit-and-run. ICE is operating like a gang now.
Where’s the accountability?
Florida child welfare officers found a 17-year-old living in a shed with no food or water. They sent him to a foster home... and then reported him to ICE, whereupon he was handcuffed and shackled and marched to detention.
Not only is that victimizing him again, it violates Florida's own rules.
Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.
Stupid stupid stupid
Shitbag tweet: Illegal in Hawthorne, California, is arrested for deportation. Angry protesters demand ICE releases her because she’s pregnant. Being pregnant doesn’t exempt women from following the law. And if this pregnant woman cared at all about her baby she would’ve self-deported.
A pregnant U.S. citizen went to the hospital after immigration agents detained her Cary López Alvarado, who's nine months pregnant, said that after being released from immigration custody she experienced sharp stomach pains and was hospitalized.
Turns out the "illegal" pregnant woman was a US citizen, and she's since been hospitalized.
BREAKING: A few minutes ago, a vehicle of three people was rammed by a truck belonging to federal immigration authorities in Boyle Heights, CA. According to security footage shown to me, they deployed chemical munitions & detained the driver at gunpoint. All are US citizens according to the wife.

Was feeling morose at the rainy cold weather we got this morning until I passed the school playground filled with kids in colorful raingear and...umbrellas! (I didn't think they used them here in Montana) ... and realized I'm focused on the wrong thing. We have so few rainy days.
