i was just on my way out for a walk as i saw my mum putting a damp cloth across her forehead, my dad explaining "she's overheated a bit"

all i said was "oh" before heading out the door.

please, if someone you care about has any kind of addiction, do what you can to help them get & stay clean. i know i know, adults have free will, but you lose nothing by at least trying to help them see reason.

a truly empathetic soul and a feminist through & through, so much of my love for people is thanks to her and i dare say i wouldn't have so many amazing women i can call my friends in my life if not for my mother's influence on my little man-brain.

she was and always will be the most important woman in my life, somehow managing to keep a calm tone even on my worst days as a misbehaving idiot child, helping me figure out my teenage years, and rolling her eyes dutifully at my worst puns.

i sometimes think the worst only to tell myself "that's mum talking".

this isn't to lessen her value, only to explain (i guess to myself?) where her head might've been recently and how that could've contributed to what happened.

- definitely exacerbated by dad recently having an overnight stay in hospital (not life threatening, but mum would've made you believe the end is nigh!). unfortunately she was set in her ways about many things and expecting the worst case scenario was quite high up the list.

mum smoked & drank for most of her life, regardless of her health being "okay" from doc's tests, it doesn't change the fact that smoking & drinking to excess can and will shorten your life. it probably doesn't help that she was a chronic worrier, increasing day by day while dad's been out of work -

i still feel quite shocked & confused, wondering if/when i'll lose the plot completely, but i'm sure i'll get through this and hopefully be my usual charming and totally not grumpy self ;) - in the meantime i might not respond to messages very quickly, but i'm not far away!

7 days ago my mother died from a sudden heart attack. the outpouring of love & support from everyone has made this past week so much smoother than it otherwise could have been, and the bond between me & my dad has never been stronger. we will keep moving forward!
