I can understand grieving the death of a person. I can understand lamenting violence claiming yet another life. Unfortunately, I also understand lionizing, sanitizing, and whitewashing someone whose legacy was very intentionally & publiclly inflammatory, incendiary, divisive, dehumanizing, supremacist, and ugly with a thin veneer of Christianity. The first two are because our humanity is still intact. The last is because it is hanging on by a thread. I will make space for the first two. I will not abide the last.

Rewriting history is one thing. Folks are trying to rewrite the present now.

Trump's insistence that he wants to try to get to heaven feels to me a huge exemplar of what is inherently problematic with western expressions of Christianity: that it is transactional, it's about results, it's about the endgame. Jesus' call to follow is an ACTIVE call. It's rooted in the present.
