Air travel is so predictable these days …
You travel 10 miles or nearly 700,000 miles only to arrive at your destination on time and still have to wait an hour for a gate to open so you can exit the aircraft …

It didn’t make it.
Call it a hunch, but I don’t think this package is being delivered this morning …
What did I miss?
Welcome to the future. It’s a scary time.
This is amazing …

I promise I can spell and type …
I don’t know if I now own the original or a replica, but I now proudly displace this infamous forecast in my office!!! Thank you, Daryl (and son)!!!!!
I issued a correction a few minutes ago.
One of the big issues is technical debt. Unless you specifically tell AI to use certain functions from the existing code base and code things in a specific way, AI likes to reinvent the wheel every time. If you don’t provide the correct context for AI your technical debt will increase significantly.
It isn’t a failure.
It may or may not work as initially intended.
But either way, I promise you … it is not a failure!
I am known for holding “CAPE Release” … uh … discussions at SPC. Much better to bleed of the CAPE in a controlled, little-at-a-time venting sessions than to let it boil up and break through a thermonuclear cap!
Very strong CAP. Very strong.
Very conditionally. I have to bleed off CAPE regularly … :)
For completeness, I am not mad, upset, or hold any ill will toward the author of the now deleted post. As I posted last week, I have said far worse about far better people than this. I bet most reading this have all said something that was regretted or poorly phrased.
I am a stable genius though 🤪
Yup. But collectively we will get there. New things are hard, but wait until we put the finishing touches on what the new paradigm is capable of supporting. This is just the first step toward much better/targeted communication. Stinks we started with such challenging/high impact events out the gate.
I don’t feel attacked, so don’t worry about me. It was a frustrating day all around. This business humbles us all at some point.
Still think we should chat at some point over the next few weeks. Never hurts to hear different voices!
Back to putting TornadoTot2 to bed. I will check back in after he is asleep!
Could I be wrong in all of this? Certainly could be. In which case I get the legacy of breaking SPC.
But I’ve bet my career on communicating more not less. If I am wrong, there are others who can step up and replace me! That’s the risk with innovation! :)
Is it more complex? Yep. Do I think that people are capable of understanding? With time, Yes. Do I think there will be a learning curve? Of course. There was one when probabilities were initially introduced as well.
Fair point.
But I have also had complaints from big media personalities that “people die in slights”. The old system did not allow us to communicate low probability (coverage probs) but high intensity (significant severe) events. Now we can communicate that.
Let’s find some time to chat. I’d honestly be interested to hear how you would have handled things given all the constraints.
I won’t pretend everything was perfect; I have my own list of things I would do differently! I can add your suggestions to my list for doing better in the future.
It’s me! 👋🏻
I’m the genius mentioned below responsible for implementation. Did I achieve “stable genius” status?!?!
It was not very long ago we were getting bashed for not talking up an event enough.
The take away: unless SPC is perfect, we will be bashed by someone. Comes with the territory.
I am good with this because it means people are listening. If people said nothing, that would be worse.
OMG!!!!
That … is … AMAZING!
I have tears in my eyes as well!!!!
And which cover sheet am I supposed to use now on my TPS reports?
Nah. AI bots don’t push back as much!!
(And that’s a good thing!)
Or, you know, they could flourish. I don’t pretend to think I am the greatest boss. (I do think I do okay, but I know where I can improve.)
Sometimes people move into management as an act of service to the team around them. I would love to program more. But my team may suffer if the wrong person replaces me.
