#14 - Crow Country

I absolutely *devoured* this. I don’t know why more teams don’t take a swing at a “Resident Evil 1-like”. I thought it was broadly understood that RE1 kicks complete ass. Is it a hard kind of game to design? Because the folks at SFB Games make it look easy. Play this!

my A-level art teacher showed it to me! she let me borrow the VHS ;_; shoutout to her

Feels like it’s breaking a rule to suggest that kind of process can be undone, or even that it was somehow fairly superficial in the first place

I think RE Village would have been a better game if it had just been Castle Dimitrescu and RE Requiem would have been a better game if it had just been the Care Centre

Dude, Crow Country has got SAUCE

The one part of the story I thought was especially interesting and memorable was rather cowardly undone by the end, which was a shame

In particular I loved the zombies in the care center, the way they were still vaguely trying to go about their lives despite having turned

Finally finished RE Requiem. The Rhodes Hill Care Center was amazing but I think it mostly went downhill after that

I think what really makes it work is the limitations - for the most part, nothing is so detailed that it can't be a platform for you - so everything you see is potentially a part of the climbing-frame design of the level, it's just a case of whether or not you can reach it

I happen to be a massive Tomb Raider fan, and in particular I love the mathematical nature of its platforming controls - the rules are always consistent - collision, gaps, slopes, jump distances - it's all uniform, so you can technically work out how to get across a room by looking at it

Crow Country - Crow Country Vinyl Soundtrack Finally, a chance to listen to the Crow Country soundtrack on a suitably atmospheric medium.  Listen to 23 tracks from Ockeroid's tense, evocative soundtrack, pressed on semi-translucent red-and-black...

it doesn't really work for me since in real life, the water flowing down would not cause the lit part of the water to move down like that. not saying it has to be realistic, but to me this reads more like a flashing neon sign

imo they very specifically want to be worse or better than the ps3

Changing camera views, you're brought in close to sniff out clues on Caroline and her nanny Doreen. Chemicals, Snot, Tears and a Bug Lead make up an odd collection of smells to connect.

A snippet of a major moment when you've put together clues to the case. The background is filled with the moment Pixel is able to piece together from her collected clues and smells. Across from her, Mr. Deerest is pleased to see Pixel isn't accusing him of a crime....yet...

We've been working away at our new game and have more to share 🐰🐰

We've got the intro of the game complete and are now working to polish it further for a full-fledged Demo. But most importantly we've got a new name for the game:

I want to hear how you get on!!

hell yeah

Crow Country sold well but sometimes it feels like its greatest triumph was being something people happily draw fanart of. This happened by accident, but now of course I'm stressing about making sure future games also have this magical quality

another exception is when the existing stylisation is too perfect and iconic to mess with - case in point; whenever I try to draw the Dragon Ball characters I give up after a short while, because there's just nothing there to be done

agreed! bsky.app/profile/bana...

yeah I've noticed this when attempting fanart myself, if the character is somewhat photorealistic, there's nothing for me to really do
