You may have seen the stories of Cherise Doyley and Brianna Bennett recently across your TL. Florida judges forced them to undergo C-Sections, despite them refusing. Their right to decide their medical care was stripped when they were made to testify during a court hearing while actively in labor.

They Didn’t Want to Have C-Sections. A Judge Would Decide How They Gave Birth. Two Florida women had to attend virtual court hearings while in labor to argue for their right to choose their own medical care. As their state pushes to expand some types of medical freedom, it has a...

ICE has been deporting pregnant and postpartum immigrants. Now we know how many. The numbers offer the most detailed look at how many pregnant, postpartum and nursing people have been caught up in the immigration enforcement surge, despite federal policy discouraging the practice.

Staggering numbers from DHS: from 01/01/25 - 02/16/26
- 363 pregnant, postpartum, nursing immigrants deported
- 16 miscarriages recorded
- 498 pregnant, postpartum, nursing people “booked out” of ICE detention (meaning they were detained and then left) @shefali.bsky.social reporting in @19thnews.org

Me gusta la chocha de las Américas On Bad Bunny, the Plantation, and Dancing Through Repair

Bad Bunny held 500 years of colonial violence, all the peoples of this hemisphere, the plantation that is the game - and showed us we get to dance through the repair. Messy, impossible, necessary. Made us proud...gave us fuel? Let us hope, Américas!

This is correct. But it also misses the point.

Normal humans find this hard to fathom but billionaires *like* losses. They *need* losses.

Losses provide ownership/control/power/entertainment while offsetting income and reducing taxes.

This isn’t about the Washington Post losing money.

Note from the editors:

ProPublica is publishing the names of the two federal immigration agents involved in the fatal shooting of Minnesota protester Alex Pretti. We believe there are few investigations that deserve more sunlight and public scrutiny than this one, in which two masked agents fired 10 shots at Pretti as he lay on the ground after being pepper-sprayed.

The Department of Justice said it is investigating the incident, but the names of the two agents have been withheld from Congress and from state and local law enforcement.

The policy of shielding officers’ identities, particularly after a public shooting, is a stark departure from standard law enforcement protocols, according to lawmakers, state attorneys general and former federal officials. Such secrecy, in our view, deprives the public of the most fundamental tool for accountability.

I’ve been in Minneapolis the last few days reporting on the ICE raids happening across the city. This morning federal agents shot and killed a man, identified by the AP as Alex Pretti. This marks the third shooting by federal agents since Operation Metro Surge started in Minnesota last month.

“Ticking Time Bomb”: A Pregnant Mother Kept Getting Sicker. She Died After She Couldn’t Get an Abortion in Texas. Walker is one of several women ProPublica found with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.

NEW:

In 2024, Tierra Walker was sick and getting sicker. She was also pregnant.

She knew abortion was illegal in Texas, but thought there was an exception for women like her, whose health was at risk. Doctors told her there was no emergency.

Then she died.
