Decent mammatus clouds this AM #YVR as showers from ACC evaporate into the dry air at lower levels
Wknd looking slightly less favourable Wx wise #YVR as mdls trending to a stger upr trough over SWBC, with minor disturbances forming along a sheared flow and NE Jet, passing ovr the LM from the NE Sat/Sun. It's a dryish patten w/most shwrs alpine, but a bit cool w/vrbl-mainly cldy skies
Upr low 43N 129W shifts NE tdy; redvlps ovr Nrn OR this eve. Moisture circulating to the N of the sys brings pds light π§οΈtdy #YVR. Vortmax 58N 140W slides dwn the cst in the wake of the low, passng thru the LM Wed AM, endg shwrs. Stg rdg then blds in fm the W. π/gusty W winds PM. Thu dry/π/windy/cool
Upr low 40N 131W lofts moisture N tdy w/increasing hi/mid cld thru the day. Dry and mild. Low lifts ENE into N CA/S OR erly Wed AM as a sharp upr trough approaches SWBC from the NW. Chc lgt πΏ Tue. Flow aloft shifts to NW Wed AM ending πΏ chcs as a stg ridg blds onto the cst. Brisk W wnd. PM π. Cooler
#YVR undr a fairly brisk SW flow E of an upr low ~45N 137W. Upr rdg axis remains just to the E. The low shifts a bit S Mon, then slowly lifts thru N CA late Tue-Wed. Vrbl skies, mild tdy-Mon. More cld/chc shwrs Tue as more moisture aloft circulates into the area. Clds, cooler Wed w/a chc shwrs
A little patch of instability drifting over #YVR this evening generating a few very light sprinkles as the drops evaporate in the much drier air near the surface. Models were all dry. They don't handle elevated convection too well. Won't amount to much anyway.
Nearly flat calm out at Silvermere Lake this afternoon
Yes - it sure looks that way. Mean-ridge dominated pattern with just a couple of weak breakdowns
#YVR undr the backing (turning counterclockwise) flow btn a deep upr low nr 45N 140W + a ridge axis fm Nrn MX to the SE YT. As the low drops twd the CA cst thru the wknd, the ridge weakens but holds ovr SWBC. Hi-mid clds pass ovhd in a SLy flow aloft thru Tue, but it's dry/mild. Shwrs/cooler Wed.
Fraser Valley near Chilliwack and maybe Puerto Alberni
It looks nice but no barn burner. 500hP heights in the low 560s...
A much wetter, colder area where the USA is today, for sure.
Thanks! I grew up near a large drumlin area in SE Ontario. We were so hard done by for winter sports because of lowish relief a few were used as ski hills! Top to bottom 30 seconds :)
Vortmax 52N 138W w/a upr trof xtendg ESE approaches the BC cst tdy w/ a compact low 46.5N 138.5W trailing the trof. Bright but vrbl sky this AM #YVR w/clds + PM. Dvlpg upr trof N-S alg 156W digs SE to off the CA cst Mon. Lots of cld but dry/milder Sat-Mon πββοΈπ΄ββοΈποΈββοΈ. Chc shwrs Tue as some moisture lifts N
The view from North Saanich towards the Fraser Valley this evening was impressive.
Cool w/a few clds this AM #YVR in a stble NW flow w/a rdg sfc+aloft bldg onto the cst. A few pop ups in the Alpine ltr PM otwz dry. Cool Fri AM w/ptchy low cld/fg then mainly sunny. Increasing cld eve w/a weak upr trof then cldy-vrbl skies Sat-Sun as a stg upr low (58N 167W) digs S well offshr. Dry.
My house right now
Pitt got in on the action
@ensembleator.bsky.social Was up at Pitt Lake today. Had a bigwind shift . Felt like outflow kicked in. Non-stop for well over half an hour. Roaring thru the trees. Whitecaps on the water. You can see the shift in this vid. Around 4:30.
Impressive CAPE in the lcl #YVR atmosphere (convective available potential energy) due to very cold conditions aloft (UIL-36.3C @ 500 mb). W/a new upr circulation still NW, we're not out of the woods yet for some convective precip this eve and chc β‘, small hail, graupel, even mixed rain/snow
Euro's on board with a nice day but not particularly warm Thu Apr 23rd and a bit windy. Fri 24th looks nice and warmish. But it's a way's off. Not torch material yet
Here in the Gulf Islands the weather is changing every 5 min. Currently partly sunny, partly cloudy. 10 min ago we had big thick heavy wet snow flakes! Heat-pump sensor temp: 6.5C Temp @ 3:20am: 0.5C

Maybe later today. But any strikes should be few and far between.
Nice pileus over the N shore in the last few min, dvlpg over a cumulus. They are formed by strong a updraft at lower elevations, forcing ascent in the moist air above the cumulus top. They may indicate potential for of severe weather, as pileus sometimes precedes transformation into a cumulonimbus.
@yvrwxwatcher.bsky.social discernible outside window too :)
The flow, albeit Wly, looks pretty light this PM so I'd expect to see a lot of "Turkey towers" around
A few clds/cool now #YVR but convection in an upr low to the NW bearing down on SWBC fast. Cool w/a mxd bag tdy: vrbl to cldy skies, chc shwrs, small hail, π©οΈ but mainly alpine/inland. Ptchy fg Thu AM then mainly πas a ridge blds into the area. Vrbl skies, dry, warmer Fri. Clds Sat. ChcπΏ Sat eve-Sun
