All of which is a long way to recommend some alternatives to the ole genocide and ICE supporting standbys and to say I’ll probably linger on bluesky without keeping up much of a presence and MOST IMPORTANTLY:

I’d love for you to find me on mastodon if you’re there :)

This transition makes me feel more optimistic about being online at all. Because it works best for my tech needs, I’m a mac/iphone user and I don’t see that changing but I’ve switched my browsers to Vivaldi; email, calendar, and storage to proton; search to ecosia; and finally joined mastodon!

I’ve lost the will to commit my time to socials that will likely become future corporate sellouts. I’m not leaving and may even post more in the future but it will be because I’ve been working on streamlining my apps and web services as well as transitioning away from supporting google, meta, etc.

I’ll definitely share my contact info for mastodon or whatever our next hope for a Twitter equivalent is, once such an account exists !

Thank you for so thoroughly catching me up! Learning how to use mastodon can move higher up my to-do list, it seems.

Hispanic journalist in Atlanta detained by ICE speaks out Mario Guevara tells the AJC about his month behind bars, and his once positive feelings toward Donald Trump.

“I’m plainly convinced that my situation in this ICE jail is direct retaliation for my coverage,” Mario Guevara told @ajc.com in an exclusive interview from the Folkston, Georgia ICE detention center where he is currently detained, despite a judge's bail order. “I haven’t committed any crimes.”

Remember: If unions didn’t matter, powerful corporations wouldn’t spend millions of dollars every year to stop workers from organizing. Keep up the fight.

The thing that I am not always good about saying but want people to remember is that whatever you help ChatGPT learn how to do, OpenAI et al are selling to the military as a weapon

That by itself should be an argument for not helping them train *anything*

Musk has experienced multiple slights lately (from his perspective) at the hands of the administration, so I don't know how this will end up. But the guy struck a Nazi pose and made cuts that will kill millions. He should never know peace. He should only know scorn and blowback forever.

I don’t want the passage of time. I don’t want the future. I don’t want this reality, in which you’re gone. I don’t want the last two flowers from your celebration of life to wilt. Words fall so short. #personal #grieving

I taught functionally illiterate undergrads at an R1 university 15+ years ago.

Tech/LLMs made it much worse very fast, but this did not start with ChatGPT.

This started with standardized testing. It started with high school budgets being slashed. It started with colleges turning into summer camps.

The thing about the birth rate is that there are over eight billion people in the world. That’s actually too many humans. We have a resource crisis.

Every single one of the birth rate worriers is talking about a race war. That is the entire thing. They are worried about dominance in a race war.
