Any hope that fired DHS Secretary Kristi Noem may have about returning to her home state of South Dakota to pick up the pieces and run for office again one day likely expired on Tuesday.

We haven’t recovered as a society, and in fact we haven’t even really named it
but when I talk about the lack of distress tolerance for dealing with other humans fueling the AI push, “male loneliness epidemic”, etc.
I think COVID was a huge factor in making it this extreme
After seeing the aftermath of Abdul El-Sayed asking Olivia Reingold what she meant by a Jewish state, I became convinced it's a question that should be asked more often. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Sec. Hegseth: "It's Just Gay" To Require Our Warriors To Wash Hands After Using The Bathroom
I know this sounds cool and dramatic but I do want to emphasize they’re going to be targeting day laborers and the like and utilizing the tactics people have already developed in places like LA, Chicago, and Minneapolis will probably be more effective.
thinking abt this bc there is currently a controversy on tiktok where people are misreading and spreading a statistic from this article, saying that 62 million men were either in or interested in a telegram chat about drugging and raping their female partners when really it was like 1000 people max
A New Jersey data center will reportedly receive $77 million in tax breaks — while only creating one permanent job.
One job, in exchange for higher utility bills, noise pollution, and potential groundwater pollution.
Is it any wonder communities are organizing to stop data centers?
Ukrainian journalist, 31-year-old Yana Shkarlat, who sustained 65% burns on her body, from the Russian drone attack on Pryluky - in the Chernihiv Oblast on April 7th, passed away in hospital in Germany.
Beyond proud to announce that we've won a Webby Award for our coverage of ICE's Minneapolis takeover.
Between January 7 and February 3, we deployed reporters to Minneapolis and brought back indelible footage. 🧵
'splain to me why someone would "improve" an existing photo by running it through a.i. so the text is garbled and shatner no longer looks like shatner
Mayor Mamdani and a group of children hold hands while running through red tape in a hallway.
For too long, bureaucracy kept 7 child care centers across our city empty — spaces that should have been alive with laughter instead collected dust.
We've run through that red tape. This fall, all 7 will open their doors, bringing an additional 240 free 3-K seats & real relief to working families.
Erie, Pa USA…National Geographic did an article on it and it went viral. Many other news outlets and websites reached out to also do stories on it.

A handsome white couple in wedding attire in a courthouse chapel, smiling widely
Just acted as witness to the marriage of two complete strangers at the courthouse because they met me outside and “had a good feeling about [me]”. All the best to David and Veronica in their life together
Oh, and green pepper sauce (kpakpo shito). That one is pretty much straight hot pepper with some oil and, I think, ginger, garlic, and onion.
Jollof is nice, but I think the most legendarily spicy Ghanaian foods are their soups. Nkwan (“light soup”) varies, but can get to a near infinite level of spicy, if so desired.
tbf its one of the rare countries that grows both fast and slow burn chillies so she's also just had practice
I thought this until I started dating a Ghanaian. Turns out there’s no pepper she can’t handle.
Mind you I recall a newly arrived American student insisting that he could handle any level of spice because he ate Mexican a lot ordering a vindaloo and not being OK (I did try to stop him, not least because the Madras was a better curry anyway, but he wouldn’t listen…)
My coworkers back in the day, all northern Indian dudes, would laugh at my low tolerance for their chillies, but they had never encountered Iowa horseradish! After a session, half became fans and half said "never again."
I said it before, but Indian chillies will come over to borrow salt, get chatting, stay for dinner and then hold you up at gunpoint after dessert, mexican chillies will smash your door down, grab you by the collar and haul you outside for a solid beating
the answer is always "the chilly you're not used to" a habanero will kill an Indian, a bhoot will not because they attack differently
Fascinating story by @charlesrusnell.bsky.social on intersection of AI and foreign interference in Alberta’s separation campaign. It raises many troubling questions. Who is paying for AI slop disinformation? And who is consuming it? And how on earth can those on the No side compete? #ableg #abpoli
That one utterly haunts me
god, he was so fucking good. maybe once a day i think about the one he wrote discussing the a&w root beer he kept dreaming of post-cancer surgery when he couldn't eat any longer
Here’s Ebert’s essay, if you want something to mourn: “Car, Table, Counter, or TakHomaSak®”
www.rogerebert.com/roger-ebert/...
And oh my god, every time that brand is in the news I am so angry on Ebert's behalf, and so angry at Steak n' Shake that they received that magnificent gift of being so seen and so loved, by one of the best writers to ever do it, only to piss all over it for the sake of idiot-pandering pseudoscience
Over the last few years S’nS has rebranded with fascism-as-aesthetic cultural bottomfeederism — they dropped seed oils, they went all-in on crypto, now this.
