That feeling when you're suffering after a flare and you finally find the ✨magic mineral✨. 😩👌
This time it was iron. Clearly I've not been eating enough assorted horse parts.

Bottom left - a photo of an OC commission I did on the Saturday (character is an elf with an eye patch, light coloured short hair and a bright blue left eye).
Bottom right - the receipt for my Stonewall UK donation of £40, plus £2.60 covered fees.

A massive thanks to friends old and new who came to my @haruhiconuk.bsky.social table! I had a lovely time and hope to be at the next one. 🥰
As mentioned, 10% of all proceeds went to @stonewalluk.bsky.social, HaruhiCon's chosen charity, and have just made my donation. Absolutely worth it. ❤️

Hello my wonderful friends! Been a while, as I've been preparing for @haruhiconuk.bsky.social this Easter weekend. 👀
Here are some of the things I'll have available. I'm also donating 10% of all sales to @stonewalluk.bsky.social, HaruhiCon's chosen charity. Looking forward to it! 💖

Fatal Frame II remake platinumed, though it was out of spite by the end.
Overall, it was a fairly faithful remake with some interesting additions to the original lore. Graphics were beautifully upgraded too.
I don't know if I'd say I *loved* it, but I suppose I enjoyed it more than not.
What really let the side down was the following gameplay changes:

- I know a lot of people have been complaining about the battle system and it's very easy to say "skill issue", but honestly? As a seasoned Project Zero/ Fatal Frame player, it was too much. This trend of every modern horror game being an action horror has got to stop. It works for Resident Evil, where the majority of the main characters are military and police.
It doesn't for titles like this, where the oppressive atmosphere should be the main focus. Towards the end, there were so many random encounters, it very quickly got stale and, frankly, annoying. I'm glad they quickly patched it so that early game ghosts weren't such damage sponges, but it didn't do much for the sheer number of them - which, by the way, made late-game exploring an absolute slog.

- Speaking of slogs, the camera and charm upgrades. Oh. My. God.
I said I got the platinum out of spite and it was because the completed upgrade trophies were the only two I needed and I'll be damned if I skip two achievements out of fifty.
There were two major problems with this; the comparatively few points you earned for each shot in the remake (when you could easily rack up a per-photo score of 10k with an upgraded camera in the original) and the obscene number of beads you had to collect to upgrade the camera.

This portion of the game could not possibly have been play-tested, at least not to the extent it should have been.
I'm not in the slightest bit kidding when I say the grind for those last two trophies took as long as getting every ending.
If they'd dropped a zero on the cost of everything in the shop, it still would have taken a lot of exploring, but been infinitely more enjoyable. I don't know how many times they were expecting people to want to play through, but you should absolutely have been able to get all the upgrades by the time you achieved the last ending.

- Exploration and side quests could have done with a lot more tightening. A few of them were locked behind completing other quests, with the final one requiring *all* other side quests to be completed, so there was a lot of running from one end of the village to the other, for no real reason. There's always been backtracking in this series, just not to this extent. A minor complaint compared to the above, but just added to the frustration and boredom.

I guess this is to be expected from a developer that's known for making "difficult" games, but there was a noticeable portion of players who were new to the series and a lot of comments saying they were initially put off by the gameplay. if they plan to remake 1 and 3, I hope they give serious consideration to dropping the tedious grinding and backtracking from this one.

Thoughts after getting the platinum for the Fatal Frame II remake.
Basically, while I certainly didn't dislike it, I wanted to enjoy it much more than I did.
(This is about as spoiler-free as I could make it, given that some of it is about late-game stuff.)

Anyone want my presale code for Muse at Brixton Academy? It's on the Friday of Haruhi (3rd April), so even if we wanted to go, we couldn't. 😅

That's all the charms upgraded. I've had enough of the Kusabi's close-up face for a lifetime. 😏

Talking about the anime "Kaya-chan Isn't Scary" with the Mr Incredible meme template:
- top row, with him looking normal and smiling, text reads "Kaya-chan at
the beginning".
- bottom row, with him in high contrast black and white, looking soul-destroyed, text reads "Kaya-chan after
11 episodes".

This whole thread neatly sums up one of the recurring problems with being on the sharp end of capitalism. If you enjoy the work they’ll make that enjoyment part of the compensation package and take away some of the money part.

Mostly done with the Fatal Frame II remake (just points grinding left), so rebought 4 and 5 for the Switch.
Never got to finish 5, as we moved and I haven't set up the Wii U. Also, I'll be glad to play 4 without all the SD card fangling nonsense - hopefully no game-breaking bugs this time either. 😂

Ah nice, looks like both merch orders will arrive for Haruhi! The first one has shipped and the second is being assembled. :D

Marginally better than London though, where the queue was random and everything was gone in three minutes. :')

Why, why, why, why, why are game devs still using "hold L3 to sprint"?! Anyone doing that should be made to play the game for more than half an hour. I can guarantee they'd never do it again.

Some people may also be pleased to hear that you can still do the "Mioooooooooo!" run.

As much as I love the original Fatal Frame II, thanks to watching Markiplier's playthrough, I'm now wandering around the remake thinking "IS THAT THE KUSABI?!" 😂

Scene is a suburban street. A green RANGE ROVER is parked on the kerb. We see two men approach it. We'll call them MAN 1 and MAN 2.

MAN 1 [showing Man 2 the Range Rover]
So yeah here it is

59,000 on the clock

Nice racing green

MAN 2:
Looks lovely

MAN 1:
It's got the heated seats, auto headlights

[Man 2 looks in the front seat]

MAN 2:
Really nice

[man 2 now opening the back door]

MAN 1:
Reverse camera, air quality sensor

Leather upgrade -

MAN 2:
What's that?

MAN 1:
What

MAN 2:
There's something on the back seat there

[we now see what he is looking at on the back seat. it is the tiny, shrivelled, calcified form of ANDREW MOUNTBATTEN WINDSOR, claw-like hands laced, his tiny body all grey, his hunted eyes glowing red]

MAN 1:
I can't see anything.

MAN 2:
You've got Andrew Mountbatten Windsor

MAN 1:
That's just light wear

MAN 2:
It's not light wear mate, it's the former Prince

It's completely ingrained in the leather

[he scratches disdainfully at the melted form of the royal wraith]

MAN 2:
Is this why you didn't show the back seat on the listing?

MAN 1:
It's a design feature.

MAN 2:
I've come down from Suffolk mate.

[Ends]

...that I felt were needlessly difficult on standard difficulty and it kind of brought the overall experience down a little.
The story, environments and homages to older titles were absolutely beautiful though and it stands as a very solid entry in the Resident Evil series. 💖
