The first fifteen minutes of my footage lacked the turtle power ups, too, but since they were clearly there for something I dug out the manual...

It has occurred to me that the real-world abrupt transition to pachi-slots is probably what killed the Pachio-kun series. The final original Pachio-kun game was in 1995, right when everyone was throwing out their pachinko machines.
So what I'm saying is one good thing came out of Otaku no Seiza.
She doesn't sound human, at least. But it is surprisingly loud for a small cat.
A cat laying down in a cat tree next to a window. She's pretending to be asleep, but stopped snoring when I approached to get this picture.
I could hear her snoring from three rooms away.
I did a quick check for the datasheet and couldn't find it immediately. Usually that kind of increment is the quantity of internal memory or cache. Micros like that have dozens of variations and it's standard to identify a low end spec and then permit the use of any with a matching pin out above it.
The guy with the helicopter pack was Lex Luthor!
I wouldn't even say "current". People falling on their face by trying to make a new multiplayer only game had been a consistent story for forty years at this point. It's requires a perfect mix of innovation, marketing, and luck to get off the ground, and so many people can't read the market...
Prey limited edition which is a steel box that just says Prey on it. Also there's a miniature of a generic guy and a miniature of a generic alien.
For Random Game Saturday, here is my limited collector's edition of Prey that I spent an entire $5 on. It came with the miniatures and a terrible art book (not picturered). Don't care for steel cases like this since they inevitably gey dinged up.
DAE remember this GEM? 🤩
Japanese TV commercial for Famicom Trade, the stock market component from the NES modem that launched all the way back in 1988. It briefly shows the specific controller that has a number pad on it

It's funny that you think this is number two.
No, I've just started leaving it plugged in all the time rather than boxing it up after every time I need it.
It is identical to the Famicom one except for the button labels and coloration.
A PC multitap witg a lumpy controller plugged inti. It has a yellow d-pad on the left, then a split, then buttons II and I on the right. In the split is a yellow grip.
It is time.
Weirdly, the cart recognizes the Japanese BIOS since it changes the title to Monster World II when I play it on my Japanese SMS. But the audio didn't work correctly on it so I had to switch to the US SMS for my b-roll...
TFW someone claims that cartridges are superior to HuCards.
Oh yeah, it wears all of its themes on its sleeve. I was just pointing out that it was also the end point of a throughline that Kurosawa had been working with that might go overlooked.
With that weird mix of channels, I have to wonder if they did some kind of survey for YouTube channels with strong viewer loyalty. And while they wanted the feedback on that, they also didn't know how to have the discussion outside of the context of a junket.
But, yeah, very weird invite...
Everyone knows that if a game is telling you to go in a certain direction, then they're hiding the good stuff in the opposite direction.
If you want to follow this post-war Kurosawa theme, the films to watch are One Wonderful Sunday (filmed on the streets of Tokyo in 1946, often without permission), Drunken Angel, The Quiet Duel, Stray Dog, Scandal, and Ikiru. Most of those aren't his famous movies, but they capture the era well.
The final film of the occupation era for Kurosawa was Ikiru in which the protagonist spends the last days of his life turning that swamp into a park.
It's one of those things that's obvious when you watch all of Kurosawa films in chronological order, and incredible and subtle storytelling.
The retronauts episode today discussed post-war Japan and I was reminded of a very nice pop culture connection.
The occupation era films of Kurosawa use a lot of ruined Tokyo as a backdrop and regularly include a cholera riddled swamp among the housing as a metaphor for the state of the country...
This person built a new Wild Gunman machine complete with the original films digitized. This is a piece of Nintendo history I never thought would be resurrected.

It seems like it's become the "Did you know that Super Mario Bros. 2 was originally Doki Doki Panic?" of Japan. Everyone was pointing out that it was actually a Wonder Boy game.
Adventure Island, publisher by Hudson on the PC Engine on April 19, 1991.
Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima II, released April 25, 1991 by Hudson for the Famicom. It has the English text "The Adventure Island" at the top of the box.
New Adventure Island released for the Turbografx-16 by Hudson. At least it was released in 1992 and in the US so it wouldn't be on shelves simultaneously and instead just screw up lists and conversation about the Wonderboy series.
Goddamned it Hudson, you're not helping this situation!
Bonus info for this game. Hero Tonma and Meikyūjima/Kickle Cubicle were made for both the PC Engine and the Famicom. But, they only released Kickle Cubicle for the FC, and Hero Tonma for PCE. The speculation is that the two canceled games weren't released because of Nintendo's policy at the time.
Legend of the Hero Tonma was Irem's attempt to address reoccurring complaints about their games being too hard, though their solution for this was not the best choice.
The PC Engine version brings the arcade version over faithfully, at least.

It's amazing that I'm so popular that I keep breaking bluesky.
The entire history of the video games industry has been companies chasing after what's already popular. Right back to Space War...
Mainly because they're the versions I've played. I haven't tried them out on the new one but it's safe to think that they've done a similar job with them.
I got Black Ops 6 with my PS5 so that's one of them.
Super Breakout but more because of the console made the game worse rather than the game itself being a problem.
World Class Track Meet, Altered Beast, and Crash n Burn can round out the rest.
