one of the ways the mid to late 20th century political world has distorted the historical memories of even sophisticated observers is in the idea that you can achieve major transformations of american political life through something like bipartisan consensus

That’s great you are connected with Lou. He and I (sort of) worked together when I was first out of seminary. A really good man. I consider him a friend.

I’m sure this is projection but it seems like our cats are a bit more content when both Jeff and I are home.

They don’t act too much different when it’s just one of us, but there is a subtle air of “more relaxed” when it’s both.

God’s time is always right on time. Someone somewhere really appreciates seeing this today.

Absolutely incredible.

NASA Astronaut Reid Wiseman, who commanded Artemis II, took this footage from the far side of the Moon with his iPhone.

Watch with sound on.

I’m always amazed that everyone thinks I’m off saturdays but I’m also seen at the church 75% of the time on that day.

Conversations at the clergy household

Hubby: could I look at one of your bibles?

Me: sure. Any particular book?

H: isaiah

Me: a fine choice. Hebrew, English, or Welsh?

H: let’s go with the original Welsh. Isn’t that the language of angels?

M: more like dragons but close enough

Speaking only for myself I just don’t think there’s anything to wonder about.

Brimstone is brimstone whether a Dante Original or Simply Sparkling.

Of all the things these people have done this continued distortion of the faith really really sticks in my craw. As I’m sure it does anyone who’s dedicated their life to the work of the Gospel.

It shouldn’t feel personal but it does

And another thing… as bad as the administration is on matters of faith, the pastors closest to the president are guilty of the greater sin.

Jesus always reserved his harshest criticisms for religious leaders so I really pray they figure this out

I don’t know if anyone else has experienced this but events of the past several months have sparked conversations with about sin, human nature, the need for salvation, “what is salvation anyway,” the judgment and justice of God, mercy, forgiveness, etc etc.

When i say that evangelical Christians have a poor political rubric this is what that looks like

There is no spirituality that is not political

Mine too largely. Or otherwise challenges their view of how the world works.

Also, this is why I have absolutely no time for people online who say you can't be queer and Religious/Christian.

This is the kind of thing that rhetoric enables, and it's actively harming vulnerable people in real life. Just because you can't be queer and religious, doesn't mean other people can't

Good morning. In my parish, I work off the model of “if you want to do this thing related to worship, let’s make it happen.” I have a young man (8) who’s doing some LEM work starting this Sunday, and we’re doing what’s good in convo w his dads.

As to diocese (VA) they req basic lvl of Safe Church

One day I’m going to ask someone who says “the church / clergy should not be political” exactly what they mean (I know what I think they mean, I would just very interested in hearing it from their response.

I could follow up by asking if they think the flags in the nave are a political statement.

I feel like I understand better how some of the prophets seemed to both welcome God’s judgment while they also wept for it.

It really would take too long to go into all the ways these (gestures) do so much harm in direct and indirect ways.

And I am constantly torn from feeling responsible to know what they’re doing while acknowledging that even reading or seeing that stuff does so much damage to my own heart & soul.

I know I can get spicy and say more on main than may befit a member of the clergy … but I cannot deny the blasphemy that comes from this administration at times threatens to rouse the Joker.

Pray for me, a sinner. Truly.

Perhaps as a token of grace they’d work in anonymity… so no one could wreak vengeance.

This is similar to what my idea of justice would be for those who have visited this (waves hand) on our people.

they’d just have to work for the rest of their days, paycheck to paycheck

WHEN WILL THE ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY STOP INFLATION

We have a couple who recently started coming and I think they’re inclined to stick around. Another couple who were at church last week came back. Someone’s spouse also came back for the second time.

Our Deacon lost her son (50’s he was) earlier this week so prayers for her would be welcome

This thread is a great example of social media as SOCIAL media, not a broadcast medium for reach or clout or clicks or one-way "engagement." Just a bunch of people who don't know each other IRL going "Check this out, you've GOT to hear this!" with genuine, contagious enthusiasm. A beautiful thing.
