Worth noting that Gerrymandering was a favoured tactic of the GOP for decades - which makes the hollering from that side of the aisle over Virginia easier to ignore

I don't remember his rush to PR when Israel bulldozed Christian cemetaries and churches in Gaza tbh

My pet theory is that Corbyn's leadership campaign and subsequent surviving a leadership challenge did something to the Labour Right. Starmer being this oddly messianic figure for them is, ironically, everything they accused the Corbyn wing of being. Less Magic Grandpa and more Mystic Middle Manager

I think you'd look at the money that was coming in from Orbans regime as a start then make it a "get foreign money out of UK politics". You'd go after the thinktanks, force them to declare individuals and orgs donating but tighten loopholes etc

Back to the point, it has become easy to forget that the US is a transcontinental nation with access to enormous resources: natural, human and manufactured that, when properly directed, can revoloutionise industries etc in a way that Xi Jinping would give his favourite Winnie the Pooh book for.

I mean..... the Inflation Reduction Act *alone* had the US competing in both clean tech and net zero industries in a matter of weeks where they'd spent years dawdling. With everyone else scrambling to prevent the en masse transatlantic migration of capitial, skills and companies.

The list of what Orbans funded is still being collated but currently it includes much of the EU far rightt, the UK hard and far right and the US CPAC. Honestly would not be suprised if it turned up that Orban paid for the Spectator Garden Party 3/3

2. For all Orban has been a talisman for his "totalitarian democracy" for the Western Right, his real asset has been funding (partially though not all from Russian oil money). 2/x

Here's what we know:
1. Orban administration funneled both direct funds from the Hungarian public purse and through the Danube Institute (DI) and the Mathias Corvinius Collegium (MCC) payments to far right, hard right and religious right commentators, political parties and the wider ecosystem 1/x

Look there isn't really an equivalent in the UK: the Jacobites are all dead, Cromwell isn't really celebrated and the Richard 3 society are mostly digging up car parks

Denmark planned to blow up Greenland runways if US invaded, reports say Denmark's public broadcaster reports that the US operation to seize Venezuela's leader sparked fears it would act against Greenland.

One point on Greenland. It wasn't taken as an empty threat by Denmark: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

It's not removing responsibility. It's helping build their resiliance without overwhelming them. Because it is really fucking easy to knock someone back rather than build them up.

Which is why we had the bizarre spectacle up here of 'defenders of women' falling over themselves to defend Alec "sleepy cuddles" Salmond to attack Sturgeon

His other role: bankrolling through the MCC and the DI of much of Europe's authoritarian right, made him vital to a variety of parties both in and out of the EU. Especially when the likes of RN in France found their ability to access funding from Russia cut off in the wake of the outbreak of war.

I mean, the Spectator has spent years fawning over Orban. His talismanic role as how the authoritarian right can take and hold power, then use that to shape the institutions of the state made him a firm favourite of the Spectator garden party set.

I mean what else can one do but laugh bitterly at the British right wing media falling over themselves to radicalise.
