We might guess, we might very well guess! 🤬
Hello! In her early queenship MoA tried to be balanced (gifts of equal value to both Somerset and York, for example), but she definitely became fiercely partisan as stakes increased. Not much mercy on any side! IMO she has been more maligned for her actions than any of the men, except maybe R.III.
Cover design of Lucy Heuschen's poetry collection "Daughter of Fire". A woman (possibly wearing a crown) in profile, her chin lifted in defiance. The image is in bold brushstrokes of red, royal purple, pale yellow and sea green.
A poem by Lucy Heuschen from her Jerwood Prize nominated debut collection Daughter of Fire. Maman Isabelle, Duchess of Lorraine (1410 – 1453) Viens, Marguerite, shoulders back. One last inspection, before I kiss you into the safekeeping of strangers. You are old enough to understand the life of a queen, her path of crushed roses, salt and honey. It is God’s will; noble work. Listen to your body; feel His love working through you, for you and if He is silent, work harder. After all, how can you say this is my desire, my ambition if you blanch at the price? I bled for you, Marguerite. Paid for you, over and over. My body clenched, split and spilled for you— then you sang in the small hour and I had my reward.
HBD to my favourite queen, Margaret of Anjou. 🔥 Her mother, Isabelle Duchess of Lorraine, showed her how a woman rules (alongside her formidable grandmother Yolande of Aragon). Here is a poem from Daughter of Fire (Yaffle Press 2025) from Isabelle's viewpoint. Visit my profile for website link.
I know you'll tell me if I'm boring you today, so apologies for that, but hey! I wrote a book, and it's out today!
Congrats Rishi! 💖
Thanks Paul

Only two months left to enter the Ver Poets Open Competition, judged by Vanessa Lampert. It closes on 30th April.
Black-and-white graphic of a vintage typewriter seen from above. Torn paper strips sit in the typewriter reading “£1200 RAISED” and “WIN CASH” in bold lettering. Below, the hashtags “#TheBrokenSpineAward” and “#ByPoetsForPoets” are printed. The overall style is gritty, high-contrast, and zine-like.
No glass ceilings will be shattered here.
No doors magically open.
One editor’s taste. A bit of money.

The cover for 'For, On, or After' a new poetry chapbook by Samantha Terrell.
The cover for 'Keeping Afloat' my first collaboration with Samantha Terrell.
My cover for 'On The Wing' by Samantha Terrell, a collection of poems on the theme of flight.
My cover art and design for 'Confronting the Elements' by Samantha Terrell. The cover has a watercolour painting of the Cuillins, Skye.
I like Samantha Terrell’s poetry for her strong social conscience and sharp, observant commentary on life. Collaborating with Samantha is always a pleasure. She is thoughtful and inspiring to work with. Samantha is EIC of Shine Poetry Quarterly, you can find her on Bluesky: @shinepoetry.bsky.social
I'm afraid my reading in Oxford tomorrow night is now fully booked, but there's no such problem in St Albans on Saturday, so Mat and I would be delighted to see you there...
Excited to be with all these fiery poets. Thanks Lucy
