The victims of the famine of 1946–1947 are being commemorated today in the Republic of Moldova. This was one of the greatest humanitarian catastrophes to strike the territory of today’s Moldova.
power point slide showing the camera locations on the orion spacecraft. For Artemis II, the vehicle-mounted OIS comprises: • 4 Solar Array Wing (SAW) cameras • 3 in-cabin wireless cameras • 3 external wired cameras • 2 human-health monitoring cameras • 2 camera controllers • 1 Fwd Bay high speed camera Other optical systems: • 4 wireless cameras for NatGeo payload (proprietary data) • 4 Portable computing devices (tablets) with webcams • 2 Nikon D5 DSLR camera bodies (+ lenses, batteries, etc.) • 2 ZCube video encoders (prime + spare) • 1 Docking Camera (DCAM) • 1 Optical Navigation (OPNAV) camera • 1 drag-on temp-mount camera to monitor crew ingress (KSC system)
Of course I only found this post-flight, but there is a good presentation of all the camera systems installed on the Artemis II Orion spacecraft. #Artemis

"Baikal" version of Buran, Credit Vadim Lukasevich,
With the original name "Baikal", with which the first ship (11F35 product 1.01 by the Ministry of Aircraft and 1K1 by the Ministry of Social Affairs) was taken to the site of the OKI (fire control tests) in the spring of 1988.
Received an email inviting me to submit a “virtual feature” for a writers’ convention.
After MANY messages, I realised that I’d be paying to be the content which seems… bold… and opposite to most events.
I guess this is a paid advert but DUDE! Next time lead with “surprise, you’re the sponsor.”
A high-resolution image of the reflection nebula IC 2220, also known as the Toby Jug Nebula. The image features a central yellowish-white glow from a red giant star that illuminates the surrounding clouds of gas and dust. These clouds form a distinct, symmetrical butterfly shape, with translucent layers of orange and deep red stretching outward. The texture of the nebula appears wispy and atmospheric, set against a dark background sprinkled with numerous twinkling white stars and several prominent blue stars with sharp diffraction spikes.
This week’s image is of IC 2220! Gemini South’s GMOS captured this brilliant reflection nebula, whose unique shape earned it the nickname Toby Jug Nebula. Check out the 🧵 for another paper using GMOS data!

“MGM is extending the exclusive theatrical window for ‘Project Hail Mary,’ so it won’t be on streaming anytime soon. This is a movie that needs to be seen on a big screen – and with a full return to IMAX screens for one week only starting this weekend, make plans to see it in a theater now!”

My first episode of Megatropolis Book 2 is out today in this month's "Judge Dredd Megazine". I'm picking up the strip after the sad and premature death of original artist Dave Taylor and doing my best to make the transition as seamless as possible. @2000ad.bsky.social
Yeah, some of the best examples I have ever seen of unintended consequences that surprise.
This photo is a wide angle mosaic of two frames obtained the afternoon of August 13, 2026 in the vicinity of Joshua Tree National Park, California. Great dark masses of cloud roll overhead like a vast vat of liquid churning in slow motion. In the distance rain is falling in isolated pockets.
A visit to a friends house near Joshua Tree, California happened during a day of dramatically glowering weather. Rain could be seen in the distance but only a few drops fell nearby. The lighting in the nearby scenery was constantly changing as the Sun was intermittently covered by clouds.
