We'll see silkens at fuckin WESTMINSTER, and so relatively soon! What a time to be alive

haha I just realized what was going on just now because I posted a picture of Caper. Luckily there's alt text for the imagination!
Caper the silken windhound, now increasingly BONAFIDE and LEGIT, looking up at the sky where a (not in pic) Cessna 172 is flying overhead
Silken Windhounds are officially added to the AKC FSS/Foundation Stock Service program!! This is the 1st official step towards full AKC recognition (& the result of lots of hard work from many folks for years). At this point it could be only 2-4 years before full AKC for silkens. Exciting news!
Kaiser may be the best of a bunch of shit options, but when you end up in a weird edge case / non standard scenario god damn does their system break immediately and profoundly
Well, after several days of uncertainty compounded by some Kaiser administrative hell fuckups, we have determined that Miro does NOT have a fractured arm. Probably. Currently kiddo is living an intermittent arm sling lifestyle for the next week and we're hopeful it'll all clear up on its own.
Not overselling: This is fucking incredible
How dare you apologize for dogposting
The key is to get the food BEFORE heading to your gate, (ideally, a plane hamper with tea sandwiches and scones from Fortnum and Mason)
Heathrow has a mostly central model because the gates are often assigned and announced just before boarding. So all services tend to be in a middle main area, and the gates in satellite areas that are a long walk (or even a train ride) away, with way less stuff since people don’t hang out there long
I know I could just go to bed but I have to get off the sofa and do animal chores and stuff first and that seems a Herculean undertaking at this moment
The 8:45 pm jet-lag-catching-up-with-me wave looks to be arriving right on time
I assure you Sicilians LOVE this kind of behavior (although they’re also really kind of only barely European in a considerable number of ways)
May I strongly recommend Italy (especially southern Italy) as a travel or possibly retirement destination for you; the “not in a hurry” lifestyle has been refined to a science there
(And if abroad, I inevitably end up doing stupid shit like “hauling back a dozen bottles of gin, wine, and olive oil plus at least 15 kg of specialty flours and dried legumes” so let’s face it, bag checking is a fact of life for me anyway)
It feels to me like being in a situation where I’m forced to drag my own bags all over the airport and through connections and layovers feels like it would be the real skill issue here 😅
My kid is steadily and consistently improving in their energy level and brain fog, and will hopefully get back to their previous baseline in the next few months. But we’ve been very much making things up as we go along, because there’s just not much out there in the way of hard data.
Me too!!! My 13 year old has been dealing with an acute post viral (not covid, specific bug unidentified) fatigue syndrome since October. There’s so little known about why it happens and how to best support a patient in that situation. But it’s way more common than folks realize!
Jess and Caper the silken windhound; Caper has his head resting on my shoulder
Caper licking my ear and making me laugh
On a happier note, HIM
Update: X-rays taken and lol we don’t get more information before tomorrow
Awesome! Thank you!
Trick question because I’m a feral forest muppet with a big tree pollen (especially pine) allergy who spends all spring crawling through pine forests looking for mushrooms. Nothing but good choices here
We’re waiting for an x ray for a maybe broken arm and the video provided a nice distraction. 😄 They’ve been a big siphonophore fan for 3+ years; marine biology & ocean science has been their passion for basically as long as they could coherently answer “what do you want to do when you grow up” haha
My siphonophore loving kiddo wishes to know what type/species of siphonophore this fine specimen might be
Runner up for me is long running breakfast MVP congee plussed with a poached egg from the Benedict station
The Indonesian / Indian items in the corner of the Lido (including sambal and lime pickle! on the condiment tray) was an absolute game changer for me; easily the best food available on the ship aside from maybe a nice steak at Pinnacle. I ate it almost daily for lunch and it saved my life lol
Well, at least Miro waited ‘til I was back to fall off their walking globe and possibly break their arm (tbd waiting for X-rays). Also gosh I luv 2 b heavily jet lagged at the Kaiser Urgent care 😵💫
Three tacos (barbacoa, carnitas, pollo in mole poblano) on fresh corn tortillas
I’m back in Portland and obviously the first thing I did was demolish this plate of tacos
I could see how it could be kinda mashed into the app I really want, but it has clearly been optimized to encourage and facilitate a certain kind of use. Maybe they’ll make a boring pared down version for people like me someday, lol
I wonder if it’s still a grotty, unceremonious, tarp-covered chain link fence passage to the ass end of the pickup curb by the motorcycles? I know it’s temporary but damn, it’s a shit way to welcome international arrivals to the best airport in the country and I think they could have done better tbh
I just realized that because I’ll be coming out of the international customs area at PDX, I won’t get to use the fancy brand new week old terminal exit ☹️
