I spent 8 hours in the ER with my 15yo today (bad ankle sprain). Very busy with respiratory issues, very few masks. Sigh.

There is a local long term care home in town that has asked staff to complete a survey about sick time. Apparently it more than doubled from 2019 to 2024. Hmmmm, what a mystery!

Reading this thread, I’m left aghast - again - that this is the company (OpenAI) and the technology that so many in education seem to be embracing as the future of education.

Hey #Halifax the guy running for the Federal seat for the CPC was a Loblaws CEO for years. They scrubbed that from his CPC bio though!

Crocus update!
I’m always grateful to my past self (and other people) who plant fall bulbs. I’m desperate for signs of life.

The 8yo had a really tough day yesterday so last night we played with chalk outside. It reminded me of things we did in spring 2020.

Grateful to my 8yo for explaining to me that “rizz” is just short for charisma. Huh.

Don’t go to the U.S.
It’s too risky and they certainly don’t know how to treat people.

They Sold Out Big Bird, and They’ll Sell Out the Rest of Us Too | The Walrus The spirit of uplift that gave us Sesame Street, the CBC, and public schools is under threat

On top of everything else to be sad about, Sesame Street has been absorbed by a hedge fund and is now on Airbnb.

I’m comfortably sitting on my porch after a run, the snow is almost all gone from the yard, birds are chirping, it’s almost 6 and there is still light in the sky. The world may be a dumpster fire but spring is still coming.

How Ottawa businesses (like Lee Valley) plan to deal with Trump tariffs One-fifth of Lee Valley's business is direct to U.S. customer sales. But with Trump's tariffs, it’s hard to predict what will come next.

Lee Valley is a beloved Canadian business.

If you need tools, gardening stuff and all sorts of other things, please consider ordering in person or online.

Canada goose fights off bald eagle in rare, symbolism-laden battle on ice Photographer captures 20-minute clash between birds emblematic of Canada and US amid high trade tensions

‘“Nature has its way of taking out the weak and the not so well and the injured. The eagle likely thought it would be able to take it out quite easily,” Sequeira [the Ontario-based photographer] said. “But, it wasn’t.””

Do this now: Check if your university / college participates in UniForum. It might seem like a simple "benchmarking" initiative or a survey, but actually appears is an initiative run by a shady management consultant firm, resulting in million dollar contracts and the shuttering of programs.
