Ack! I wish I'd had this info last month when I was in Shropshire. Excellent read. Thank you!

Good literary translation requires understanding (language, culture, genre--on both sides of the translation) and an ability to write well. "AI" can't do that. There are no shortcuts. Treat your work and foreign language readers with the respect they deserve. You won't fool anyone with this.
In just a few weeks, I'll be at the World Fantasy Convention! If you'll be there too, here's where you can find me.

A quote from Ann-Marie MacDonald that reads: "Memory plays tricks. Memory is another word for story, and nothing is more unreliable." The background shows sepia-toned photographs strewn on a desk.

I'm seated at a banquet table beside a standing Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, who has an arm around my shoulders. She's wearing a red flowered dress with a green wrap, while I'm in a grey suit. Other banquet tables can be made out in the darkness behind us.
So sorry to learn we've lost Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, seen here on that night in 2009 when the Horror Writers Association presented her with the Bram Stoker Lifetime Achievement Award. She'll be missed not only for the stories she told, but also the life she lived. A remarkable writer and person both.
And since we're here being helpful, North Americans should note that clocks go back in the UK on Oct 26 but in the US and Canada on Nov 2.
I was lucky to see it in festival at Toronto After Dark. Fun fact: the entire set is practical - built by an arts collective in Seattle, I think.
I didn't know Marks and Spenser was an option. Thanks for the tip!

I would have a joke about Odysseus, but he's nobody.
1. The Magical Monarch of Mo by L. Frank Baum, hands down, no question.
2. I read a lot of bonkers childrens' books (see #1), but for reasons I can't quite explain, the one that stuck with me is The 35th of May by Erich Kästner.
The Bewitching cover shows a creepy hand.
