A map showing the distribution of sample effort during an effort to detect SARs-CoV-2 in Ontario wildlife.
Despite extensive sampling, we did not find any viruses closely related to B.1.641 after the original discovery.
Now published - Wildlife surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 following the discovery of divergent lineage B.1.641 in white-tailed deer from Ontario #wildepi www.facetsjournal.com/doi/10.1139/...
A screenshot of the new Pathoplexus homepage showing all viruses now supported, including Dengue and Yellow Fever, which are circled in red
1/ 🦟 Big news: #Pathoplexus now supports Dengue virus & Yellow Fever virus - two arboviruses responsible for over 400 million infections and up to 94,000 deaths per year.

A poster with catails in bloom in the background. The text reads: From failed crosses to runaway hybrids: How plant hybridization can shape ecosystems. Mar 10, 7:30 pm, the publican, Dr Joanna Freeland, Trent University
When species meet, do they always get along? Do they perhaps sometimes get along all too well? Trent's own Dr Joanna Freeland brings us into the weird world of plant hybrids + ecosystem action on March 10th.

Very proud of this project and the resulting paper. Underwater video is a promising alternative to capture-based fish sampling methods.
How useful is underwater video as a fisheries assessment tool in freshwater?
@jacobbowman.bsky.social asked this question for his honours thesis, by comparing video against other ways of counting fish.

"Canadian Word of the Year" on a red banner. Beneath the banner reads "maplewashing" and "the deceptive practice of making things look more Canadian than they actually are"
And the results are in! After carefully reviewing the results of a national poll the Board of Directors of the Society for Canadian English (SCE) has determined that this year’s Canadian Word of the Year (CWOTY), the first of its kind, will be “maplewashing.”
