There is a bias among pundits to eye-roll and dismiss Dem opposition to Trump (such as the No Kings protests) as predictable. But in terms of raw numbers (both events and participants), what we're seeing is much bigger than e.g. the Tea Party movement was. Dems are a high entropy system right now

once again, if tylenol caused autism, america would have a better rail system

I know we've worked hard to move history ed away from names and dates but I think we might need to swing back to chronology a bit because "who was president on january 8 2021?" and "which came first, the clinical description of autism or tylenol?" shouldn't be this hard, especially for reporters.

I understand Miller doesn’t like being called Goebbels, but maybe - and I’m just spitballing here - he should stop plagiarizing Goebbels speeches

Tyler Robinson will be out of the news by Monday.

Right wing which dominates media and politics and power is already gaslighting their audience and still blaming "the left."

You can't shame shameless people who are committed to an extremist authoritarian project.

New Mexico will be the first state to make child care free The program, which is expected to save families $12,000 per child annually, is available to all residents regardless of income.

New Mexico's economy is a fraction of the size of New York City's.

If they can enact universal childcare — and relieve working families of a crushing cost burden — surely we can too.

It's just a question of political will.

Too bad the GOP effectively criminalized studying how information moves online and news orgs laid off and demonized all the reporters who covered the burgeoning online accelerationist performative death cults. All of that work was somehow "censorship" that needed to be stopped. Now we're here.

Never not amazing when for all the money and power law agencies are given, they go on tv with a shrug and say “look, American public, you really gotta help us out on this one”

Whatever the killer’s motives, it is clear that political violence is a problem that extends across ideology. Prominent conservatives, moderates and liberals have all been victims in recent years.

It's worth asking why every elite institution is issuing statements like this rather than pointing out the obvious fact that the institutional right commits and glorifies violence far more than the left. Is there a reason you feel you can't say that out loud?

Trump's new executive order about AI states that companies' models must not incorporate the idea that trans people exist as a concept. Seems bad.

Man after 4 years on Mastodon I can’t get used to Bsky. Composed an eloquent, earnest, heartfelt post about birds and flowers and how much I fucking hate everything, but it turns out there’s a dadgum character limit here. Le —as we used to say — sigh

ICE handcuffs 71-year-old grandmother, a U.S. citizen, at San Diego immigration court Barbara Stone was handcuffed and held by federal agents for hours, according to her family; she was accused of pushing an ICE officer, which she denies.

When I say most people are good and we are going to beat these fascists, people like this woman are why I feel so confident:

“The message that it sent was very clear: For us to be afraid to come back and do the work that we’re doing,” Mendez said.

Stone, however, said she would volunteer again.”

All heist movies are the same because all movies, generally, are the same. There are only a few allowable subjects: heist, romance, male super-spy, male superhero, male captain of the starship, and elves (also male)

I was embarrassingly late to the anti-terf game. I’d been indoctrinated by a radfem terf at a tender age, and it took some major schoolin’ by the blog’s more enlightened commentariat to set me straight. Forever grateful for their emotional labor and insight.
