Great weird folk horror from Ben Wheatley. His film "Kill List" is my favorite film, and this had a similar build-up, just a little less dark.

He was definitely a proponent of this widespread "Tech Will Solve All Problems" mindset we're dealing with now. Sad to me, when I was getting started learning about synths and samplers his devices were the pinnacle of what was available. Does Kurzweil even make synths anymore?

I think the push from the industry is coming from two high-pressure directions - one is "we have to somehow be profitable or we die" but the other is "if enough people get hooked on AI we control society"

Yep. I think his kind of "aw shucks" positivity masks some seriously disturbing oligarchical control freak behavior. And the press just accepts evidence of it blindly - his "generations of people will work in factories" as a permanent underclass was really actually frightening to hear
