Finally, how big is Nevada, exactly? It’s pretty big.

Health Factors in Nevada
Focus on rural communities in Nevada is not about deficits or a problem to solve, but about design, resilience, and the exciting possibilities to collaborate with them. A look at some interesting map snapshots…#NPHA2026

Thanks for the open invitation - I'll keep that in mind and see what else I can drum up. If I think there's enough useful stuff to share, I'll reach back out about being a contributor.
Not to scare anyone away from academia, it's not perfect, and short of changing the system, I appreciate you sharing this info as it will help our up and coming colleagues be more prepared if they decide this is what they want to pursue.
Other things that I have learned:
Be willing to move out of state
Know what it means to be "under contract"
Know what it means to be "tenure track"
Some interviews are "pay your way" and then get reimbursed
I was the first in my fam to work in higher ed, always a non-trad student, worked in a public and hospital library. The interview process was a shock to the system. My first onsite was 4 days (director role), my second was 2 days. I worked on my presentations like it was a dissertation defense.
Things I talk to my #MLIS students about:
*my salary (as an adjunct & as a librarian)
*my student loans (how much I owe & the PSLF process)
*vocational awe (RIP Fobazi)
*Melvil's legacy & why it matters
*the job hunt (I show them my academic interview day schedules & they're horrified).

What’s unfolding across the news is heartbreaking. When we name them, we remember them 🤍
Dr. Cerina Fairfax, Pastor Tammy McCollum, Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer, Ashly Robinson (Ashlee Jenae), Qualeshia “Saditty” Barnes, Davonta Curtis, Barbara Deer, Ashanti Allen.
This is so cool! Even with the small community I think this helps Pagecord bloggers connect and see what others are writing. I like how it’s split across trending / recent / shuffle. I landed on recent and instantly found a post to read.
Congratulations! It’s an inspiration to see you pursue your doctorate. Hope all goes well in your studies!
Feliz cumpleaños 🎉!
Arghh! Started the form than jumped to Turbo Tax, signed back in and got this lovely message 🙄..."You won't be able to work on a FAFSA® form until approximately 3:00 a.m. Eastern time on Thursday, April 16th. Thanks for your patience."
It's still the 15th on the West Coast mi gente.
That's it, that's the thread - didn't think #hospitalhistory would be happening even now, but here are. Las Vegas, baby, Level 1 trauma centers now on both sides of the Las Vegas Strip.
Either way, it will be interesting to see how this development impacts the physician workforce (will it create more GME slots? More specialist training? More trauma nurses? Respiratory Therapists?) and community health (will two Level 1 hosp. sustain the city's growth? How will quality be impacted?
And this news article detailing that the request for Level 1 designation was initially turned down and then appealed to through the court: www.fox5vegas.com/2026/03/10/j...
Designating trauma centers is not w/out controversy, as this 2015 news article notes in a cited study: "...when too many trauma centers operate too close to one another, it can lead to inefficiencies, lower patient volumes per center and reduced quality of care." businesspress.vegas/health-care/...
Essentially, both hospitals are required to have 24/7 round the clock providers and hospital workers that on a dime can assist in the most critical of emergency care. This means that both hospitals need to have the resources to staff and operate at the highest levels of care 24/7, 365.
A quick Google Maps search shows that they are roughly a 15 minute drive apart, a little over 4 miles, but with the Strip those numbers can vary wildly (not the miles, the traffic time). Prior to this change Sunrise was a Level II Trauma Center. www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/programs/eme...
Las Vegas now has 2, Level 1 Trauma Centers in the heart of the city. The first being University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, the county hospital, a not-for-profit who received their designation in 1990 and the second, Sunrise Health System, a for-profit, owned by HCA Health Care (2026).
