look for people who weren't around in the Dirty Wings / About a Girl era, you simply cannot comprehend how many bad decisions Sarah McCarry can cram into a single book (complimentary)

you shouldn’t learn about bands from shady TikTok manipulation, you should learn about bands by hanging out with a girl you like but are also extremely afraid of

Memes image of Aragorn and Theoden with undercuts and earrings saying "Chat, the beacon notification just hit. Gondor's asking for a carry" and "Say less."

Was feeling melancholy, but then I dug up Theoden with an undercut from my vault of memes

Scientists captured female sperm whales on video working together during a birth to protect the calf Scientists have captured rare footage of a sperm whale giving birth, offering a window into the large mammals' behavior.

How incredible: “The full delivery took about 30 minutes. For hours afterward, pairs of whales held the baby above the water until it was able to swim…
What struck the researchers was how many mother, sister and daughter whales united to support the new calf, even ones that weren’t related.”

Q: Nicholas Lezard has written 'Rowling can type, but Le Guin can write.' What do you make of this comment in the light of the phenomenal success of the Potter books? I'd like to hear your opinion of JK Rowling's writing style
UKL: I have no great opinion of it. When so many adult critics were carrying on about the "incredible originality" of the first Harry Potter book, I read it to find out what the fuss was about, and remained somewhat puzzled; it seemed a lively kid's fantasy crossed with a "school novel", good fare for its age group, but stylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited.

just remembering the time ursula k le guin absolutely ethered joanne and her rancid little franchise. "[S]tylistically ordinary, imaginatively derivative, and ethically rather mean-spirited."

yeah so I don’t think the choice we’re being offered is “pay the police to play Candy Crush or pay them to lock up your neighbors” it’s that this even *being a job* is a choice and we can unmake it at any time

“I Think the Word Is Dignity” — Rachel Corrie’s Letters from Gaza Letters written by peace activist Rachel Corrie, killed in 2003 by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, provide context to the violence there.

"I’m witnessing this chronic, insidious genocide [...] and questioning my fundamental belief in the goodness of human nature. This has to stop. I think it is a good idea for us all to drop everything and devote our lives to making this stop."

Ramadan In Exile A writer from Gaza reflects on the experience of observing Ramadan in exile.

"They took our house and scattered our family. They turned our lives upside down. But they did not take the way we gather in memory. They could never take the prayers that rise from wherever we are standing." www.acaciamag.com/web/ramadan-...

"I like the capacious and the unruly; the weird; the plotty and its opposite, the entirely vibes-based; the rampant deployment of the semicolon. I like books that spill over, that put out tendrils, that revel in unrepentant maximalism"
