Posts by Justice For Workers - Nova Scotia (J4W-NS)
This week JFWNS member Tony Tracy spoke at the SEIU Local 2 rally for Out of the Cold shelter workers who were all terminated with only 30 minutes notice. These workers are on the front lines of the homeless crisis, and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
CUPE staff and members of Local 3912 holding their fist up and posters. One of then reads: Nova Scotia, is time for higher wages for precarious workers in higher education at Dalhousie, SMU, MSVU and NSCAD. The other one has a graph showing their salaries are and have been for 10 below the rate of inflation

"...it's crucial to understand not just the tragic circumstances of Davis's death, but the broader militant tradition of Cape Breton's coal miners that continues to inspire today's labour organizers and union members in the region and across Canada." #DavisDay springmag.ca/standing-the...
A black memorial monument for William Davis (1888–1925) with the words "STANDING THE GAFF" engraved on it, surrounded by shrubs and trees. The bottom of the monument includes an etched image of a group of coal miners. Text overlay reads “Davis Day — 100 years” with the NSNDP logo in the corner.
Davis Day today marks 100 years since William Davis was killed by company police during a strike. We honour those who stood the gaff and sacrificed so much for labour and human rights. And we remain committed to better wages and worker protections, and ending scab labour in NS.
Today is the 100th anniversary of Davis Day✨
Today we to join in remembering William Davis, a coal miner tragically killed in 1925 during a strike for better working conditions and fair wages in New Waterford. His death ignited a crucial turning point in Nova Scotia’s labour movement.
“In an era of increasing corporate power, precarious employment, and attacks on collective bargaining rights, William Davis’s sacrifice resonates with contemporary struggles for workplace dignity and economic justice.”

Nova Scotians deserve a raise!
Tim houston said he would increase the minimum wage to $16.50 in two steps. That's nowhere near what is required. People are struggling to pay for essentials! People are struggling just to stay afloat! Houston must raise the minimum wage well past $16.50.
