Nice design detail from a poster by @hadiqa-tahir.bsky.social. I really like how the figure crosses intro and methods with "existing methods" in the intro and "our new method" in the methods.
Not quite #DataViz, but probably overlap.

Career Opportunities: Postdoctoral positions in predictive modelling of antibiotic resistance spread (22755)

Interested in predicting the dynamics of antibiotic resistance? Come work with us! We're looking for two postdocs to develop predictive models of resistance. We're interested in a range of approaches (mathematical & statistical modelling, causal inference, machine learning).

Interesting at "Environmental Modelling meets Infectious Diseases" that nearly all the environment modellers describe their physics models as essentially black boxes.

When mechanistic models, multiple regressions and ML models are ALL black boxes, maybe just understanding models is hard!

A poster with a map of predicted air conditioning ownership

And last one for now. I was presenting this poster on behalf of Amber Vayani (hence no person in the photo). A big applied project mapping air conditioning in lmics. Impacts on mosquito borne disease and extreme heat related health outcomes.

I'm planning on a GIANT roxygen2 release in the near future (tons of bug fixes, improved R6 support, new S7 support, ...) so if you use for your packages, I'd really appreciate you trying it out and letting me know if you see any problems! github.com/r-lib/roxyge... #rstats

The AI is always wrong, in matters of taste.

50:50 in matters of fact.

And now Samana Bano presenting on new methods/software for fitting spatial disaggregation regression model with data through time. Quite a few people have been asking for this! Watch this space for software. #StatsSky #EpiSky

"Environmental Modelling meets Infectious Diseases" workshop at Warwick today. Lots of contributions from close colleagues that I'll share today and tomorrow.

Who wrote that thing that big purchases should be made on a big screen? That resonated. I don't mind buying £30 things on a phone. But if I'm spending £100, it deserves a mouse, keyboard and monitor.

I really don't mind if bluesky remains quite quiet. Yes twitter was important because everyone was there. But a nice little forum for chat is a good thing to have as well.

For reasons that are certainly unrelated to grant applications, does anyone know of (ideally with some evidence) uses of tools I have contributed to (scoringutils, epinow2, epinowcast, epidist, primarycensored, episoon, epinow, censoreddistributions ...) from different parts of the world?

Most of what I know is also from social media. At its best, it's a truly revolutionary space for learning and debate. Far more insightful than reading slow and narrow back and forth letters in journals.

So much of what I know is from social media interactions. There just isn’t time to write and publish all useful thoughts, and often understanding might change just a few years after publication anyway… So the only way to keep up is to speak to each other more! :)

Help!

I'm looking for people with ME/long covid or similar who do something creative (eg painting, photography) that is inspired by nature to feature in my book.
Ideally people more severely affected than me, so bed bound or partially bed bound

Just read some interstellar blog and reminded again of my gripe that it should be E=c²m, not E=mc². (Variables go after parameters and squared terms go before un-squared terms).

Comparison of maxent and logistic models

Comparison of maxent and logistic models

Do you like Maxent? You can now use it within SpeciesDistributionToolkit.jl 🎉

We have also added a bunch of dataviz functions, including bivariate and value-suppressing maps. Oh, and conformal prediction for uncertainty quantification. And more coming soon.
