This looks like a truly stellar cohort of fellows--I'm super excited to see what they accomplish!

Astronauts! They're just like us!
Laurel has not yet solved the epistemic crisis, but I have faith in her!
EPA says burning plastic fumes are fine, actually, don't worry about it:
Does it help to know that you’re not the only person being tormented by this polymer?
Meanwhile I'm trying to figure out if I can get to a conference in Canada! #Pleasetakeme 😂
Travel nightmares and 🧊 in Atlanta affected many folks at last week's ACS meeting.
Massive thanks to @maxhenrybarnhart.bsky.social for tag-teaming reporting and writing this around our other stories (and travel) and @laurahowes.bsky.social for editing!

For the med chem and structures nerds of #chemsky, @bribarbu.bsky.social sat in on the #ACSSpring2026 first disclosures session to see what new drug candidates were unveiled

Did you experience travel issues at the ATL airport returning from the ACS meeting? Willing to share for a c&en story? My DMs are open #chemsky #ACSSpring2026
I was quietly tickled to read the URL "how-study-microplastics-when-everywhere." Then, I was fascinated to hear how much WORK it is to study microplastics in a controlled way. Positive air pressure, 100% cotton lab coats, this story has it all.

@fmorningstar.bsky.social and I tried a synthetic ice rink so you don't have to! The company that made it says it could be the future of ice sports. I'm not convinced.
(thanks to Prachi Patel, David Anderson, and everyone else who helped make video happen!)
A screenshot of a news article titled “Editorial: Can we future-proof the language of chemistry?” The opening art is a television’s showing the dictionary entry of the term “global warming”
Journalists lost a lot of public trust when politicians turned the term “fake news” (a term journalists came up with!) into a weapon. Similar things have been happening in the language of science. I got to spew a bit about it in @cenmag.bsky.social cen.acs.org/education/sc...
Ice rinks are energy-and water intensive to maintain. Researchers are considering ways to make them more sustainable, but there are quite a few trade-offs.

As you may have heard we've got both a climate crisis and a plastic waste crisis on our hands. My latest news story for @cenmag.bsky.social is about researchers trying to tackle both problems at once by upcycling nitrile rubber gloves to capture carbon dioxide:

I started my education in biology just as CRSIPR's gene editing potential was discovered. Now, 14 years later, sitting down with Jennifer Doudna 1-on-1 to write this profile is a highlight of my career.
The Schrödinger equation turns 100. Century-old quantum formulation continues to be one of chemistry’s most-used tools. by Ananya Palivela. A collage of images of Schrödinger, his 100-year-old paper and his equation.
One hundred years ago, Erwin Schrödinger came up with an equation that rewrote the rules of matter. The equation is expected to continue shaping the future of chemistry by playing a role in quantum computing and machine learning algorithms for chemical design. cen.acs.org/physical-che...

And then someone else will ask me "what are aminosulfur oxydifluoride groups" And I can be like "That sounds like SuFEx chemistry here's some past coverage you should look at"

One fun part about my job is that sometimes my coworkers will DM me things like "What is this starting molecule called and also how hard does this frog toxin synthesis look" and in return I can ask them silly questions about biology.

Come to @fmorningstar.bsky.social's latest story for the lasers beaming into space, stay for the gorgeous photos. Of lasers beaming into space.

My colleagues @rowanwalrath.bsky.social and @sarahbraner.bsky.social dug into what we know about how alum and related adjuvants stimulate immunity and why MAHA regulators are going after them.

Aluminum learns to ride a redox cycle Main-group metal performs like a transition-metal catalyst to build aromatics from alkynes
Researchers have devised an aluminum complex that undergoes a full catalytic cycle. The metal switches between two different oxidation states to assemble substituted benzene rings from alkynes. cen.acs.org/synthesis/ca...

The fact that the 2026 Winter Olympics mascots are stoats, 10 years after the CERN weasel incident, is so meaningful to me.

"Everyone's favorite hexagon" (benzene) turned 200 last summer! So I whipped up a little feature about it and learned all sorts of fun facts about old-timey chemists! ⚗️🔬🧪

I'll admit it. I don't follow football. But @maxhenrybarnhart.bsky.social's story about the gloves football players wear for @cenmag.bsky.social is positively gripping.

Researchers at Peking University reconfigured an aldehyde dehydrogenase to make amide bonds, which is pretty dang neat and a really impressive feat of enzyme engineering. I wrote about it for @cenmag.bsky.social. Please enjoy.

I'm just back from a ski holiday in time for Prachi's excellent look at some of the new chemistry behind this month's #olympics, including ski wax drama and some sexy carbon fibre skimo boots 🧪⚗️⛷️
