Meme with a photo of a fountain drink machine with a cup sitting under two nozzles (red and blue), a hand pushing both buttons at once and liquid coming from both nozzles. The blue (left) drink is labelled "grateful for the insight I have gained from all my experiences" and the red (right) drink is labelled "still thinks some of that sh*t should not have happened". The hand is labelled "me".

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage. A woman answers the door. We have come for the child, says the hooded figure So soon? she asks It is time, says the hooded figure. The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card! What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading! For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman, the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them. Do not cry mother. I am a writer now.

there are so many goldfinches about this morning, and it's absolutely delightful!
I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"

Opening the lid of AI and it’s just Sam Altman crouched in there typing really fast to everyone. He seems stressed.
"Could you turn me into a cat?" the man asked.
The witch gave him a long look. "Why?"
"So I could be your familiar," he said with a grin.
"What an interesting idea! Let me try."
*poof*
"Oops!" the witch said.
She picked up the frog. "Let's get you to a pond."

Welfare helps people participate in society. It also moves money around the economy, keeping it healthy. They call it a “cost”.
AI cuts jobs, makes useless un-copyrightable content, raises the energy bills of anyone living near them, and makes no money. They call it an “investment”.

🚨Big Britpop anniversary alert!🚨
30 years ago today Manic Street Preachers released “A Design For Life” which is one of the most famous songs of the whole Britpop era...in fact the whole 90’s.
This was their first single after the band regrouped following Richey’s vanishing.
pardon me while I crumble into dust before your very eyes
A picture of a library shelf with a small rolled up note on it. The note says “read this” in child’s handwriting.
A picture of the note unrolled. In the same child’s handwriting it reads “beware of the future!!”
Still thinking about this note I found in the children’s section of the public library when I worked there back in 2018. This kid tried to warn us…

When playing certain games, you gotta ask yourself
Am I enjoying this or am I making ice cubes?
You deserve better than ice cubes.

The Calvin's dad explaining records meme. He is explaining that the two kinds of meme are Calvin's dad and Loss. Despite being a meme about Calvin's dad, this one is Loss.
One of the comments to this is like “of all the things to be mad about, not being able to get a credit card is low down the list” and y’all being able to leave shitty men is so important and cannot be done without money.
This infuriating attitude shows up on the bookshelves in learning environments, too. We expect girls to empathize with boys, but we kneecap every opportunity to let boys empathize with girls. And look where we are.
