aphantasia as an artist is fun though because it means i give utterly batshit descriptions of things i'm trying to make in the hotshop

(because I also kinda suck at drawing and find it easier to just will something into existence)

i'm team aphantasia but everything else is incredibly vivid. Same in dreams... it gets very weird.

the thing nobody warns you about before you build a bunch of muscle is that you will be hungry all the time unless you have adhd and then you just forget to really eat properly until you faint

sad to be missing out on maintainer summit though, there's a lot that would benefit from broader community discussion this year and the unconference and hallway track will be excellent (as always) I assume

Prototype set of whisky glasses with implosion bases finally made it home today. I really like these and might have to make some more....

Glass is good at teaching you to detach from things… right after recording this I managed to… break out the cups avolio while knocking off :(

But I’m still really happy with how this went. I do love that going thin is increasingly my default too 😅

I still need to buy new lights (and some large-ish softboxes), but my new backdrops and holder arrived!

Slowly getting things ready to do nice photography of my glass over the next few months 🎉 - but for now enjoy a couple of recent pieces with some very awkward lighting.

Goblets are peak "glassblowing for glassblowers" in that they're entirely pointless but are a really fun way to challenge yourself.

I haven't made any in the hotshop since September, but had a great time making this full cane goblet and now i might spend some time making more 😂 #glassart

A lot of us also started adopting Go more seriously at the same time bc of the deployment story - and bc it made reasonable enough tradeoffs for most of the other bits.

Finishing the thought after meetings - at least from conversations with other folks at the time, a lot of other folks were going through the same thing (from various other language monoliths to distributed computing becoming a bit more normal after the uservice hype cycle chilled a little)

It was a function of good timing too - we adopted it super early at CircleCI bc it dropped as we were starting to decouple the clojure monolith - and weak API guarantees when you’re already writing a language that goes to such efforts to pretend there isn’t a type system underneath…

I did a stone working class last year and it was so very weird to just grind things away for two weeks

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly.
Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground.
The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible. #glassart

the problem with owning a 3d printer is that whenever I'm using it, I end up wishing I had ~3 3D printers because I'm impatient and there's always too many things to print at once.

for most people's threat model, it's probably still better than an entirely unencrypted disk (and if your threat model actively includes governments with physical access to a device... you hopefully weren't relying on bitlocker)

That plus iOS built-in translation - it has a local-only-data-doesn’t-leave-the-device offline mode that works-ish

The Go team have been on fire lately.

Basically every release lately has dealt with like... actual problems I run into on a regular basis. Once again excited for a language release when 1.26 drops.

Reading the news is so weird this year bc I can never quite tell if I’m somewhat having a fever dream nightmare or if the world really is this fucked 🙃
