There’s nothing wrong with virtue signaling if it actually signals virtue. It may become a problem if the signal is false, inauthentic, exaggerated, or held over the heads of others as a “holier than thou” cudgel. But virtue itself is no vice. That’s true by definition.
I’m glad the bombing & killing has stopped, at least temporarily. But you’ve got to admit, this whole sequence of events has made our President and our country look incredibly weak and impotent on the world stage. On balance that may be a good thing. We’ve been the world’s bully far too long.
Critics call NEPA a barrier to development. But it’s only a “stop and think” statute. Before NEPA, agencies gave little or no thought to the environment. Now they stop, think & usually find a more eco-friendly way. Few cases get bogged down in bureaucracy—and then only because the harm is severe.
Maybe if we stopped harassing and arbitrarily detaining and imprisoning foreigners, they might actually want to come here? Just a thought . . .
And those Marines themselves might become ICE targets by the time they leave the Corps. ICE isn’t going after active duty military (yet), but there have been some reports of veterans being targeted. Hopefully a different administration will be in charge by the time they leave their service.

Abolish DHS. Many of its essential functions could be carried out by separate, apolitical agencies. We always knew harnessing that many powerful government agencies under the supervision of a single political appointee accountable only to the President carried the danger of despotic rule.

We also don’t know whether these are genuine ICE agents, or Proud Boy paramilitary thugs posing as ICE just to beat people and terrorize them. You can’t tell. Anyone could get a camo outfit, mask, and tactical weapons and pose as ICE. They display no ID and hide behind masks. COWARDS!
Experts say it would take $100 billion and 10 years to get (low quality) oil flowing from Venezuela’s deteriorated infrastructure. Meanwhile Big Oil is cutting back on capital expenditures in the face of a global oil glut. Trump’s anschluss may amount to nothing but empty political theater.
Mark my words, Cuba is next. Venezuela was just a dress rehearsal. Little Marco has been dreaming about re-taking Cuba his entire life, along with the entire Miami Cuban-American population. Meanwhile they’ll choke off Cuba’s oil supply, coming mostly from Venezuela. Bay of Pigs II, anyone?
Trump just fired dozens of top career diplomats, including many in highly sensitive posts. He plans to replace them with people “aligned with the administration’s priorities.” In short, hacks, ideologues, and sycophants. U.S. influence abroad is already at a nadir. Now it’s falling off a cliff.
How nice for them! Here’s an idea. While the rest of us are struggling to buy groceries, how about we eat the rich?

As a Medicare recipient, I’m no longer so keen on Medicare for all. We need something better: a true National Health Service that covers 100% of hospital and medical care.
