Thursday Movie Club has a charming fun ensemble cast, beautiful locations, and a good plot. At the end, pains are taken to point out that lives were lost

No patronising intro! Chris Columbus plunges into the story, expecting the audience to get up to speed. I like that higher expectation very much

I’m listening to Stone & Sky by @benaaronovitch.bsky.social
At the end of Chapter 20, The Diving Skid, Kobna Holbrook-Smith reads “Peter’s face is unexpected wet” and I am crying. An audiobook has never made me cry. Kobna’s line reading had me choking, I couldn’t swallow. Great performance.

We finally watched Sinners

My gods. I understand why it did so well. I bought for BTS

Gotta buy bluray too cuz this Chicago girl had often gone South Loop, sat on barstool dozen times at Legends. Buddy Guy in a role? Post credit scene? A gift

Ryan Coohler & Michael B. Jordan, you are legends too

#HeadsOfState fun buddy tentpole. Cena a bit dim but canny, Elba is gloomily romantic w/Bourne-like adventure tumbling in & out of planes trains & automobiles. Such good chemistry!

Good VFX by DNEG on Chopra head replacement (guessing) in her slugfests. Kudos to prod for casting good stunt double.

Rebase always makes me pause. Stash your second last commit since you haven’t pushed. But I think you can just rename it, too?

Mr. Willis of Ohio (1999) Richard Schiff in The West Wing (1999)

On an oldies TV channel here, they’ve started, from the beginning, The West Wing. Gods I miss this show. Tonight it is episode six, Mr. Willis of Ohio.

I’m channel surfing and one of my favourites is on: Kosinski’s Oblivion with Tom Cruise. The story, acting and cast are great but for me, it’s the beautiful rear projection on the Sky Tower sequences that leave me gasping. Kudos to Claudio Miranda. Beautiful work by Pixomondo and Digital Domain.

Alas, not the book but here’s greater detail than what you found in the footnote.

Bill Ackman, specifically, just thought it was more fucking important to be able to oust Black women from the Harvard presidency than to have a functioning global economy.

That’s what this is about.

RIP Val Kilmer. My gods you were something else. I’ll save Heat for the weekend; it’s too long for a weeknight.

But I remembered I love Tony Scott. So it’ll be Deja Vu with Denzel and Val from 1995.

I guess that means we can feed and water voters in line now. Can legislation barring that be overturned?

I found myself avoiding Adolescence. I wasn't sure I'd want to see this story. But I got lured in by the idea of an episodic one-shot. Beautiful invisible VFX. I am not disappointed.

Every actor is brilliant. Direction is flawless. Prepro is overwhelming to comprehend.

Onto episode 2

RIP Richard Chamberlain. Everyone says Shogun, but the film that made me love him was The Three Musketeers.

Directed by Richard Lester. Cast: Chamberlain, Oliver Reed, Michael York, Frank Finlay, Raquel Welch and Faye Dunaway as Milady. Charlton Heston as Richelieu!

comedy? action? drama? YES!

Yeah, mmm, that’s not great. I cancelled our US holiday and now we’re going to Celebration; then meander in Japan another month or so.

If the midterm elections swing in a good direction then maybe it’ll be safe enough to consider visiting my family.

Saw The Electric State last night. It’s underwhelming. It didn’t look or feel like Simon Stålenhag. Ground my teeth in frustration

Then I watched the credits. The show employed 10k people directly/indirectly. VFX by ILM, DNEG & other studios. People got paid & did a good job. Yeah, I’m ok with that

This kind of chest thumping “I can and want to kill for <some cause>” posturing is why I left Twitter.

Instablock violent wanna-be murderers. Give them no air.

Both my parents died wide within months of each other last year. The funeral home handled SS notifications. It was a relief, tbh. Smooth process meant one less thing to fret about.

I love hearing the theme songs but I thought maybe I had zooped out and missed the "why". Life's little non-sequiturs.
