The function of blood stem cells is critically governed by their dynamic, bidirectional interactions within the bone marrow niche. When these cells turn leukaemic, the crosstalk with their environment changes dramatically, fuelling disease progression.

The induction of SCL and LMO2 leads to conflicting haematopoietic and neuronal fates; therefore, inhibiting the pathway associated with neuronal fate enhances reprogramming to haematopoietic progenitor cells.
This study describes the development of a model allowing the reprogramming of fibroblasts to haematopoietic progenitor cells via the induction of two transcription factors, SCL and LMO2.

In this preprint, we showed that granulocytes from CMML patients are immature and produce high levels of an adipokine called Resistin. Resistin binds to monocytes and prevents their maturation, potentially contributing to the monocytosis phenotype in CMML.
