We’re Not "Celebrating" Earth Day—We’re Showing Up! YouTube video by Rewild

Remember the original Earth Day? The protest for our planet?! Demand for change, for a brighter future -
That energy lives in Indigenous & local communities who have safeguarded ecosystems for generations, and are doing the hard work day in and out to care for our planet.

This. For Earth Day. This is the Burning Sun

We pay three times for fossil fuels

Once for the capital (often subsidised)
Twice for the running costs. Forever
Thrice to clean up the mess (environmental & health)

Renewables?

You pay once. And they keep on giving

That’s it. Story with a swerve

Meme:

I used to think the top global environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse, and climate change. I thought that with 30 years of good science we could address these problems.

But I was wrong.

The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy, and to deal with these we need a spiritual and cultural transformation, and we scientists don't know how to do that.

A wide range of different pesticides (inc insecticides, herbicides, fungicides & rodenticides) are used in our villages, towns & cities. The second most common way for most UK people to be exposed to pesticides, after diet, is through spending time in public spaces...

BREAKING: @sahouraxo • 4h X Israel dropped bombs on the historic Citadel of Tyre in southern Lebanon. Not a military target. A UNESCO World Heritage site — one of the region's oldest surviving monuments. This is a war crime and a crime against humanity.

When Alexander the Great besieged Tyre this citadel withstood a seven-month blockade and perpetual military attacks. If Israel bombed it they most likely used US bombs. US tax dollars in service to war crimes.

Oh, and switching to 21st Century technologies, rather than continually extending the long fossil century, also improves people's lives, creates jobs and helps prevent climate breakdown. But who gives a damn about such details?

I don't know why this is so hard for some people to grasp. If we extend our use of fossil gas, rather than going all-out for grid batteries, heat pumps and induction hobs, we extend our dependence on *foreign* sources of gas, regardless of whether we also use the UK's last remaining reserves. 🧵
