As you say, the issue isnt ID per say, the goal of the laws isn't to fight fraud, its to disenfranchise people. If they really wanted to do it in a way to maximize participation, they could but these laws dont do that, they only adds friction to the process.

2, our most common ID (drivers license) doesnt indicate citizenship so even if we have that, id have to provide another document, Birth cert + marriage license bc i changed my name or passport. Which is *fine* but if someone moves/marries near an election, it would disenfranchise them bc of dealines

Current issues: i dont have to go anywhere to register to vote. They have mail in registration forms everywhere (library, post office, people even hand them out on the street in election seasons) so already going to the clerk would be a hassel that would require most ppl to take time off work.
