Happy National Library Workers Day! Go be nice to a librarian and remember to vote yes on the library levy in August if you want your local branch to stay open ❤️
The Tonight Show is built to liquify all phenomena into content. Trump, the political reactionary and demagogue, the harbinger of a crisis, was treated not as a threat to democracy or a figure of public concern, but just another wacky celebrity guest willing to play along. Fallon and his show are not horrifying because they are malevolent, actively creating suffering in the world, but because of a thoughtless, systematic refusal to perceive any of their work as having ethical consequences. Trump’s monstrosity becomes merely eccentric, as neoliberal media packaged as entertainment normalizes a failing status quo.

This is such a great encapsulation of the horror of the Tonight Show.

Oof
This means that HHS can no longer initiate investigations of gender clinics for trans youth based on the Kennedy declaration or try to terminate federal funding through Medicaid and Medicare.
This is an unequivocal win for the 22 states that brought this suit to protect access.
Southwest Branch is orange but ARTISTIC LICENSE
I know right? Last one seals it
A young patron at one of my branches turned in this incredible acrostic on the back of their scavenger hunt entry:

Really fun
Amazing
Really cool

Incredible washed up rocker vibes
Too much boring ass justice around here, when will intolerance and cruelty catch a break
It had to have been very tempting to just plead guilty and save a ton of time and money; it’s interesting that she went another way.
In a sick, violent way, they have more faith in the possibility of a new world than a lot of people on the other side. They are willing to reimagine all of it. Many of us cannot imagine getting rid of payday loans and they’re like eff it, let’s see if the Pope’s still got the juice.
Hi, social worker here, being unhoused or unstably houses literally damages the brain and housing as a legal and human right would massively decrease crises.
This is why I get mad annoyed at ppl who adamantly refuse to believe that Democrats aren’t actively complicit and are equally part of the problem. They are always more concerned about their own backsides so they can sit cushy and do absolutely nothing of worth beyond accruing power for its own sake
All the Council amendments to the library levy passed! These expanded budgets will give SPL a little breathing room over the next 7 years beyond bare survival. Fantastic news.
Now we just have to pass the levy.
You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.
"What can Democrats do?"
When the South Korean president attempted to declare martial law, South Korean lawmakers literally fought through tanks and military forces and climbed fences to get into their Parliament building to stop him.
So, you know, that.
If there’s one thing that really gets Trump’s goat, it’s a subtle hint relayed through fashion
Thanking God today that my nephew Miles is with us for Easter today. His wound is still oozing blood but he’s alive & we’re thankful. The knifemen who stabbed him are still roaming around London. Perhaps around your loved ones. Happy Easter xx

A pic collage of Jean Grey from X-Men and Buffy Summers with a tweet pasted on top of it that says “times they’ve died + come back” and shows both ladies did more times than Jesus
Happy Easter 🐇
We are just praying we can keep open the branches we have
When they ask how I’m doing
The only thing that makes life possible is permanent, intolerable uncertainty: not knowing what comes next.
For context, the current proposal would simply keep the funding at about existing levels with inflation through the mid-2030s. We’re asking for a modest increase that would amount to just $15/month for an average property owner, less than the cost of one book per household.
Screen grab of text: Hi, I'm Matt Baume. I'm a writer based on Capitol Hill, my work focuses on pop culture and queer history. A couple years ago I got an idea for a book about the history of queer characters on American sitcoms, and how hidden behind those characters is the real-life story of the fight for queer equality in America. A weird idea, but I found a publisher willing to take a chance on it ... IF I could get them a draft in five months, a crazy tight deadline.
Screen grab of text: I was only able to say yes because of the Seattle Public Library. Right in my neighborhood I had near instant access to books, videos, magazines, old journal articles, a reference desk. The library was like my research partner and helped me hit that seemingly impossible deadline. My book about gay sitcom history is out now, it’s called Hi Honey I'm Homo. It’s been honored with several awards, including by the American Library Association. And the Seattle Public Library invited me to deliver a talk about it. One of many author talks they host every year. Part of a wide range of diverse, enriching programs all over the city.
Screen grab of text: A robust Library Levy is the best kind of investment a city could ask for. Every dollar that goes into the library comes back to us in amazing ways... Getting more books in more hands. More inspiring events. More library workers. Clean safe buildings. And helping people create new culture that will live on and inspire more people. A strong Levy is not just a good idea, it is a brilliant investment in our future. Thanks for your time and your support of the library.
Here’s my remarks from today. If you’re in seattle, now’s the time to demand your city council person support a nice big library levy!
I hope that everyone is paying attention to what's happening where you are locally re: your public libraries because it's probably not good re: funding.
