I often think about how, in mass (and even social) media, stories told about Los Angeles rarely come from Angelenos. They are typically filtered through a personality or correspondent from elsewhere who, we are told, knows best.

This is it, essentially. The core of it. The goal of ICE detention in the mass deportation system is to make people give up their case without fighting; to have an officer say “if you want to see a judge and plead your case, you’re going to be jailed for months and months, so why not give up now?”

I voted for the measure to endorse Prop 50 and I think it ultimately comes down to a political difference in outlook. For me, fighting fascism, even if that could technically help Democrats, and solidifying DSA as a leader in the anti-fascist coalition rather than just a spectator, is most important

Been organizing on the ground against ICE with the LA chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America and we’re witnessing and being told of raids they happen. Tho it has slowed their operations, they’ve not gone away

We should absolutely continue to fight back, but unfortunately we’ve not seen ICE go away in Los Angeles. In fact, they have kept up their fascist program in violation of the courts’ restraining order.
