Just finished a full week of mock trials with children from all the participating schools in my Law in the Classroom module @ucdschooloflaw.bsky.social. Hats off to all my students for working so hard to make the experience as fun and engaging for the children as always đđđŠââď¸

Reminder: Kennys Bookshop delivers for free in Ireland. Easons have free delivery over 10 euros (and also sell toys and games and stationary). Lots of lovely booksellers in the actual stores too, like Books Upstairs, Gutter Bookshop, Hodges Figgis.
The subjugation of universities to official power is a hallmark of autocracy. No one should be under any illusions about whatâs going on here. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/13/n...
đ¨đ¨ This is very, very bleak as democracy and free speech seems to be slowly dying in America. The dystopian authoritarian future envisaged by Margaret Atwood seems no longer fiction but dawning reality in #trump land. www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...

I am absolutely delighted to share that my article on Tackling Ignorance about Law in Human Rights Education has just been published open access @berj-2025.bsky.social. Looking forward to feedback đ

Abstract This paper aims to unpack potential reasons why law and legal knowledgeâdespite its apparent importance and value in teaching and learning about human rightsâappears to be largely conspicuous by its absence in human rights education (HRE) in schooling. Drawing on a range of contextually relevant categories of ignorance identified from discourse on epistemologies of ignorance, it argues that deficits in legal literacy on the part of the wide range of stakeholders involved in HRE can manifest in multiple guises, including: ignorance as a strategic choice for political ends; ignorance as a conscious, rational and practical (not necessarily self-interested) choice; and inadvertent ignorance or such that is unconsciously selective in nature. By approaching the issue from this novel standpoint, the overarching aim of the paper is to illuminate the prospects and possibilities for tackling instances of such ignorance going forward.
New open access article in BERJ from the brilliant @suzanneegan.bsky.social talking about the reasons underlying the absence of law & legal knowledge from human rights education. Definitely well worth a read đ

Parkerâs argument inspired me in writing my recent piece - just published in the latest volume of @hrer.bsky.social âAddressing Human Rights Educationâs Curriculum Problem: An Interdisciplinary Solutionâ tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/25355406.2025.2464118?src=exp-la
No surprise to see Walter Parkerâs hugely thought provoking article HREâs âcurriculum problemâ coming in at the top of @hrer.bsky.social most cited articlesđđź
Such an impt pt: We need to equip people with "practices (skills, knowledge, attitudes, habits of mind) that allow them to exert agency over technology." This aligns with John's comment on the pod that adults who use genAI well already have critical thinking along w relevant knowledge.

This is the 1st time, as far as I can gather from my own research, that the CESCR has raised the issue of children in care from families in poverty in relation to any country. The UK Gov admitted failure, and that it has to change. It's something to hold them to account in the future. #CESCR2025 đŹđ§

ability to print high-quality books for children that can be companion pieces to academic output.
@suzanneegan.bsky.social & I are trying to get an engaging children's book on law published alongside our book on Legal Education in the Classroom, but existing university presses aren't set up 2/4
