Also kind of depends on what one is trying to achieve. To predict the outcome of lab experiments, lab experiments are probably as good a bet as any!
Cite the deep magic to me, witch. I was there when it was written and I think it’s important to credit our sources.
It'll be my first time! I intend to be the voice of the future
Are any of you going to ISBA by any chance? I arranged for some cognitive modeling folks to show up there this summer, might be nice to meet and talk about unique properties of generative models for inference
I sometimes wonder if the immediate and frustrating feedback people get from LLMs when they write poor prompts may gradually turn them into more empathetic advisers
A dish of homemade pierogis with Brussels sprouts and walnuts. A glass of wine.
The correct answer was: cheese perogies
I wrote up something that's been in my head for a while: psychometric methods alone can't tell us what cognitive tasks and their indicators measure.
Correlating indicators across tasks is circular when constructs are defined by those same correlations.

What do you serve house guests when Easter falls on the same day as First Contact Day?
"We used to support you but we now understand that was misguided,"
No you're just going through something right now
This I respect
Okay I could do prosciutto
I'm not usually one to contribute to a dogpile, but ham on pizza is gross
Scientists, journalists, and their amateur equivalents 🙂
I continue to believe that scientists are outliers in expecting linguistic expressions to be carriers of real information
I like the variation with the sorcerer on the pebble beach who challenges you to find the One Pebble, and after you pick one up he picks up a different one, makes the beach disappear, and says "wanna trade?"

4-panel comic. (1) [Two people standing next to house with solar panels on roof. Person 2 has a black hat.] PERSON 1: Wait, you got solar panels? I thought you were against renewables. (2) PERSON 2: Oh, definitely. I hate the environment and want to harm it as much as possible. I’d *love* to have an oil furnace. (3) PERSON 2: But the technology just isn’t there and the cost is too high. I despise solar, but it makes more financial sense in my situation. (4) PERSON 2: But with the money I’m saving, I can buy and burn industrial waste in my yard to try to make up for it. PERSON 1: Ah, yeah, carbon onsets.

@JacquiDeevoy1 15h A friend told me that hours after having the AZ jab, he was sitting at the dining table, when he suddenly projectile vomited pints of black blood. Over the next 4 days, he suffered bleeding from his rectum, had blood in his semen and came up in bruises all over his body. @Pliny_theElder 6h Replying to @JacquiDeevoy1 taking a break from vomiting and crapping pints of blood to jack off. oh no that's blood too
Thinking about a startup that offers the full effect of a PhD education by just making you watch Requiem for a Dream on repeat
"Not NOW, Orbital Shrapnel Apocalypse!"
I do wonder if people know that essentially 100% of all code that is run on any device is machine-generated by other code
Fortunately no one has to engage with him so there's the fairly general block-and-move-on option 🙂
Hadn't come across the name before. It's a wicked platform problem. The post in question *seemed* innocuous enough, in that *I* can read it both ways, but it's hard to ask people for whom that is a trauma trigger to show good grace even if *I* can believe the intent is all on the up and up...
Indeed. Not a lot of folks are acquitting themselves well here but he's leaving a relatively simple resolution step on the table
Maybe we need an "IN LLMS" account on here
