One of the great examples of a non-song song is "Last Call" on Kanye West's College Dropout from 2004. A non-song song is music, verily, but lacking a hook, or verses, or a chorus, and the vocals are sorta musical, but instead of singing a song, they're just telling you about a thing like it is.
But when John Lennon wanted to talk about how he really felt about God, in 1970, and share it directly with people, he did it in a song, and back before social media created a more effective illusion of knowing an artist like they were a real person, the non-song-song was a killer app.
But there are other songs on 1970's Plastic Ono Band that are interesting in a more forgettable way, like "God" which is a lot like a blog post.
In the future, long after Lennon was dead, they invented the internet, and artists could give their direct thoughts to people. Anyone could! It rocks-ish!
What do "Plastic Ono band" and "Velvet Underground and Nico" have in common? They have a lot of song that really focus on the narrative, and they fluctuate the story with expressive vamping.
"Mother" and "Heroin" are both epics of huge feeling and simple words, where the music paints. Rival songs!
After the Beatles broke up, they all had solo careers that were good, but not as good as the real Beatles.
One highlight of that is John Lennon's "Plastic Ono Band" from 1970, where he proves he can do the same thing Lou Reed did on "The Velvet Underground and Nico" from 1967.
Why The New Babysitter is Worse Than The Original
It was hard for the people who died. It was also hard for the people who killed them. Some of them also died.
I don't understand how this is cruel. If a toy were designed to teach the exact opposite lesson, that would be worse.
Horrible, tbh
I think the most interesting thing I learned making Everyday Hamburger is that you can just add beef to cake mix and you won't even be able to taste the beef. Did you ever think someone snuck ground meat into a chocolate cake? You would probably not notice.
disgusting drawing of Donald Trump where he has a red nose and it kind of looks like blood, and it's fingers are like little sausages, and he's hunched over like a creepy creepy guy, and he has blood red lips, and sharp ugly teeth drawn by unpatriotic scum who should probably be rounded up
I draw sometimes
Pencil sharpeners are amazing because you can take a pencil that hasn't been touched in years, even if it is decades old, and give it a sharp point. In some ways it is new again.
Sure, Tarantino includes bits of other movies, remade shot-for-shot, but the sum total of his work is never any one movie he plagiarized.
It's crazy to write the movie off as derivative slop because of that, because none of the best parts of the movie were in that source material. Where's the insanely high tension stuff about Nazis trying to find secret Jews? Where's Brad Pitt's Italian accent? Where's the theater full of dead nazis?
Was there another movie where they carved a swastika into a nazi's forehead to punish him?
You didn't like Inglourious Basterds, or Django Unchained, or Pulp Fiction, or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood?

Unfortunately, this does not mean that Tim Rice gets 40% of the credit for Jesus Christ Superstar. Poor guy has to share credit with the Bible.
So, going from this, if you AI-generate a song but write the lyrics to it, I think that means you get 40% of the credit/blame.
How did I arrive at my numbers? Well, I simply realized that the music is always going to be doing a little more than the lyrics are, but almost half of the experience can be the lyrics.
Corollary to this, the most credit you can give the lyricist of the song, if they didn't do anything besides the lyrics, is 40%.
I crunched the numbers and the maximum that lyrics can constitute or contribute to the quality of a song is 40%.
@charlesaustin.bsky.social Do you think it's worth seeing the Toy Story with Sneakers Movie?
