Congress has already made several disastrous cuts to essential programs like Medicaid, ending health care for millions. Now they have continued the chaos by cutting $1.1 billion in federal funds for public broadcasting. In Nebraska, public broadcasting covers the Legislature and gives the public the transparency they need to hold their state senators accountable. Over 15% of Nebraska Public Media’s budget comes from federal funding. Losing federal funding means risking the valuable programming and essential news NPM provides for all Nebraskans. Nationally, public broadcasting is the primary source of emergency weather alerts in rural areas, further risking lives from floods like in Texas, and putting Nebraskans in danger from severe weather like tornadoes. Deep cuts will also threaten programs like “Sesame Street” that teach our children values and manners. I am strongly opposed to funding cuts for public broadcasting, and will support the restoration of these funds.

Congress just proved why it is so broken -- Trump and Senate Republicans advanced their “Big Beautiful Bill” with JD Vance casting the tiebreaking vote. This means $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, and 10.6 million people would lose their Medicaid coverage. Those are cuts to health care for children, cuts to nursing homes, and cuts that threaten Nebraska hospitals – all to pay for even more tax breaks for the very wealthy. Not on my watch. It’s why I’m running for Congress. I’ll lower the costs of healthcare and support tax relief that helps working families and small businesses. It’s time to end the chaos in Washington and get things back in balance for working families here in Nebraska.
