Lol yeah, the promo Falco in the game promos has it too funny enough. Looks like he has his boots wrapped up in yellow cloth perhaps?

Some recent comments by Yamazaki state he crafted the characters using clay, perhaps the kind often used in claymation? The flexible skeleton is likely bendy wires beneath the clay to enable the miniatures to be posed. Pictures of the models were taken in a set box, much like his other vfx projects.

Nintendo hired VFX talent Takashi Yamazaki to craft the promo materials. There were 10 pieces made in all: 4 large scale puppets for commercials, 4 miniature sculptures (seen here), a Arwing, & an enemy ship from the angry Fox poster. The cost to produce them was $100,000.
