I got like 4 hrs of sleep/night for a year and was still behind on work.
Healthcare workers risked their lives and watched colleagues die.
We did not enjoy it.

This is a very blinkered take. The experience of people with kids at home was…not this. I am still traumatized (and behind) from having to do my job and manage virtual PreK and K for a year. Essential workers had it even worse.
Roberts has to be on the list based on that memo. Those are straight industry talking points.
The little-known, niche community of women 🙃
France is also weird about this, in that both Catholicism and laïcité are embedded in the culture, but relatively few people in my generation are actually religious
Why women? Because neoliberalism and sexism go hand-in-hand. Essentially, the only way for the federal government to spend ~$0 taking care of people (the neoliberal dream) is to create a class of people who can be compelled to care for free (and sexist logic/structures establish women as that class)
Or, to put it more bluntly: "Rich people could pay less in taxes if only women would do more unpaid labor at home."
Our neighbors flew out of BWI yesterday and reported well over 4 hours in line
I once had to cancel an overseas work trip due to an ear infection (they didn’t want me to fly). So embarrassing.
Catty. Have never heard katie
Option c, rhythmic gymnastics
It’s the reverse for me - I can tell you the price of most staples, but I only have a vague sense of gas prices, I assume because I buy food more frequently than gas. But I am definitely in the minority.
🧵Feels like shouting into the void, but it is essential to note that the Trump/Rubio gutting of the State Department and blowtorching of US diplomatic capacity and credibility is an accelerant to this spiraling war and will seriously undercut US/allied efforts to pick up the pieces after. 1/
Either reading comprehension is an issue for you, or you’re arguing against a straw man.
So education is SO important for kids 5+ that it can’t be done by parents and must be in public schools, but if you’re younger than that (and again, at a developmental phase when it matters MORE), then whatevs, man.
And a bonus eugenecist take. You seem lovely.
But also, way to dehumanize people who have kids. Very progressive.
Hate to break it to you, but education starts long before preK (which is why states are increasingly moving to fund early education). The most critical learning period in a person’s life is 0-3 years. So your positions are entirely inconsistent with each other.
By this reasoning, we also shouldn’t provide health insurance for kids, universal public education, or loans/grants for college to students under 18.
What I suspect you really mean is “taxes shouldn’t pay for things that I won’t benefit from”
This is a neocon take in progressive clothing
I’m at a soft money institution where teaching and advising is often framed as “being a good citizen” rather than THE THING THAT STUDENTS ARE PAYING A $!@&-LOAD OF TUITION FOR.
That framing then gives them permission to under-pay (or in some cases not pay at all) for our labor.
My partner was in an online group that was zoom bombed by someone using racial slurs, and he has not been able to return (it’s been several years at this point). It’s a whole different level of trauma.
Our district made the decision to go virtual 3hrs ago and we still have no snow on the roads 🫠🙃
And if schools are closed, daycare for our younger one generally closes too. I just need to get some work done 😭
I will die on this lonely hill, telling every undergraduate that comes to me fretting about what they should major in that they should major in whatever they want, while they learn how to read, write, work with data, & speak a foreign language.
US (grew up between US and EU), English. Fire engine or fire truck, used interchangeably
That is…quite a leap
No children in camps!! Public health and medical colleagues we need to keep speaking up! No camps. No more families torn apart and mistreated. End this now!
This. I would make up a song where all the words were no/yes, and it (usually) would surprise/annoy/distract my toddler long enough that he would stop.
This, and in the US I’d also be concerned about heavy metals (lead, etc) and other contaminants. Not sure how much this applies in the UK. But I would definitely talk to a ped.
Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti “We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.
Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti.
"Please get the truth out about our son."
they summarily executed a fucking VA health researcher. our field cannot just ignore this. or just release angry statements and move on.
