The bracket system and banlist’s focus on targeting enablers rather than overall card quality of Commander and wincons/threats is fundamentally backwards in a format that aims at parity instead of optimization.

Commander of course being the most impactful knob, and quality of threats/wincons being the next most relevant. Enablers are entirely dependent on the other two; Mana Vault isn’t powerful if all it does is offset the fact that your Commander and all your threats cost 2 more than other players’.

But Game Changers are a part of the problem of the current system.

Individual pointed cards in the 99 only make sense in a format where each deck aims at optimization. Non-cEDH EDH aims instead at rough in-pod parity. Commanders, acceleration, and individual card power are all knobs to that end.
