A ★★★★ review of The Cat (1988) Hard not to compare this to Dog Day but it’s wild that it can stand up to a film like that. This had me locked in, great characters all around and great real-time pacing.

A review of Everybody Street (2013) Some actual sociopathic behavior on display but also those street shots from the 50s and 60s are fucking priceless. Imagine how 2026 might look in another 75 years. Watched after hearing John Wilson talk about it inspiring him

A ★★★ review of Blue Sunshine (1977) Okay the bald lady with the knife got me! The intro by the director where he’s like “idk man, think about it!” was hilarious.

A ★★★★ review of The White Sun of the Desert (1969) Starts off a bit slow but ends up with some serious momentum by the end. It was interesting to go into this fairly blind and learn about the context after the fact. Some of the culture-signaling stuff felt pretty heavy handed (the literal hammer and sickle moment was funny) but I guess that comes with the whole state-sponsored deal. Despite the questionable tropes and such, it’s still a pretty damn entertaining film.

A ★★★ review of Kingdom of Heaven (2005) Such a strange experience watching this film. I feel like I didn’t understand a single thing that happened, nor could I tell you who any of the characters were or how they related to each other. Maybe the directors cut is just incoherent? Did the theatrical cut make this movie make a shred of sense? Orlando Bloom really went on a wild run of high budget action films in the early 2000’s, wtf.

A ★★★★★ review of Atlantic City (1980) Susan Sarandon topless rubbing fresh squeezed lemon juice all over herself. Don’t question it. Completely unrelated, this film had me locked in. Basically every character is a dirt bag but the little glimpse of this world was just so compelling for some reason.

A ★★★★★ review of Project Hail Mary (2026) I loved the book so I was primed to enjoy this, but man what a time at the theater. It did such a good job of communicating the science stuff without getting too bogged down. The tone can be a bit much - the book also wore on me in that way - but it doesn’t bother me here because Gosling is pitch perfect. Yes some of the story is contrived but who gives a shit. It’s crazy how a movie can be fun and also good, if only the rest of the blockbuster industrial complex could get that message.

A ★★★★ review of Cutter's Way (1981) Jeff Bridges in this might be the pinnacle of male attractiveness, can someone get Clavicular to calculate his scores? I have only been involuntarily exposed to that chud via millennial podcasts but I don’t know if there’s a better encapsulation of the internet in 2026. Incredibly sad stuff.

A ★★★★ review of Thieves Like Us (1974) Classic Altman, a bunch of dirtbag characters being obnoxious. What else can you ask for tbh. Shelley Duvall is a literal angel in this. I kept thinking about how Joel Kinnaman looks like a more chiseled version of Keith Carradine.

A ★★★★ review of The Stunt Man (1980) Pure cinematic heat from this one. Peter O’Toole flying around on a directors chair on a crane the whole time being sassy, do I need to say more? The intro from the director on the Transmission Blu-ray was fucking hilarious. This has to be my favorite label.

A ★★★ review of Excalibur (1981) I got a new TV right before watching this and I was losing my mind thinking my audio sync was off. Turns out this movie just has terrible ADR. There were so many amazing moments in this but the way it jumps around in the story made it hard to latch on. Will definitely rewatch this with a commentary eventually.
