Meanwhile over on the other place, rightwing free speech warriors (this guy is a former DeSantis campaign staffer) are calling for me to be denaturalized and deported because they don’t like my political speech. This is what fascism and racism looks like, folks.

President Trump’s comments tonight suggesting a US Gaza takeover are a call for a crime against humanity & should be unequivocally rejected & condemned by world leaders & American lawmakers regardless of party.

For too long I pronounced 'misled' as [mizld], i.e. past tense of 'mizzle'. I kind of prefer it to mis-led, actually.

and can alternate with /t/ (and doesn't alternate with /j/, usually)

1 year ago 3 0 1 0

In Australian languages, it gets worse: most of them have two 'rhotics', /ɻ/ and /r/, and they behave quite differently in terms of phonotactics and alternations. /ɻ/ behaves like the other semivowels, /j/ and /w/, and can alternate with /j/, /r/ behaves like the other liquids to some extent

I have a major problem with the term 'rhotic' though, for exactly the reasons you point out: that it encompasses sounds of many different manners and places of articulation including zero

1 year ago 6 0 1 0

I would regard them as sound changes if by sound changes you include all realisations/reflexes of the proto-language inventory.
