Character reference sheet for Maréchal Sosthène Fressange, a fictional Napoleonic marshal. Three views: profile in bicorne with white plumes, front view showing the red grand cordon of the Légion d'honneur across dark blue coat with gold oak-leaf embroidery, and back view displaying elaborate gold braiding down the spine. Grey-eyed, dark hair silvering at the temples, sharp-featured. French quote on right reads: "She grows roses. The old strain. The ones that bow their heads. I thought them ashamed, once. Now I think they are simply tired of being looked at."

Who is your favorite of Napoleon's original 18 Marshalls of the Empire and why is it Michel Ney?
i wrote something genuinely new
every historical fiction writer projecting modern identity categories onto 18th-century characters needs to read this.
every person who thinks "people haven't changed, there were always gay people" needs to read this.
i don't say that lightly. I mean it.
have literally never seen anyone else write about sexuality like this and i cannot understate what a fucking good read it is, i think that it's genuinely an extremely valuable article that goes so far beyond queer history 101. it introspects in a way that i think most ppl don't even think about
Illustration of Napoleon and the Duke of Wellington standing side by side in military dress. Napoleon in a redingote grise and bicorne, Wellington in dark cloak over gold-trimmed uniform. Stylized character design art
two short kings who spent fifteen years trying to kill each other and accidentally invented the modern world

i've had to unfollow a couple of artists for doing this just lately and it's honestly so fucking weird - especially when they also have alt accounts. why not just dedicate an alt to that rather than, you know, your art persona. it doesnt even offend me, it's just a jumpscare to see between fiction
i have returned to stare at these two at least 3 times
acadi and ur art are two of the most graceful things
wow this character and art are beautiful
this article put words to something i've always noticed and felt strongly in writing but never been able to name. genuinely i always learn a lot from ur posts and this one in particular hit hard. it explains a really valuable perspective about storytelling very eloquently and digestibly
normies are cringe outta here with you
ugh this character and art are absolutely fantastic
my boy colonel jurten
god he is so handsome dude
also drew aelias as a viera because i am xiv trash occasionally
warhammer 40k portrait of my naval officer who is lobotomised and also some writing because idk im surprised the word count allows me to actually attach all this writing too. that's kind of sick im ngl. thank you bluesky - > "The drink is adequate, Aelias." He recoils when their gazes met. He did so hate how his Lordship perceived him, his nape crawling in challenge instantly as he performs through one eye only. All in solitary, sharp, furious defence of adequacy. What is adequacy to a Lord Inquisitor? How amasec does even lesser to wash away the scrutiny and memory of one privy to him for so many years. Just how old was he? Thinking too furiously. Aelias simply smiles, one-sided as he stood away from him. Yes, Lord Inquisitor. It is. He tries not to see the man's expression in turn. To look at Origen Thule for too long inflamed him.
aelias mynaard, lord captain of the navis imperialis
this guy is beautiful........the fuck
yeah it is just deranged. Actual Adults on the internet in the adopts/art/species community behave better than a baby that just threw up challenge level impossible honestly
the modern way that people immediately witch hunt others (especially young people) completely off websites when you take their fun personally and don't know how to just close the tab is exceedingly disappointing tbh
while this is not entirely to blame, there's a lot of nuance to the situation, i would say this is a part of it. specifically only around anything synonymous with sexual in intent though. puritans are still totally fine with violent content (even though i would call violence much worse than sex lol)
