I've been grappling with whether to stay or go recently as well. Cost of living is ridiculous but there's so many great reasons to stay. That's why so many people want to be here!

I take it back. Travelling to the moon was not frivolous. It puts it all into context. We are stuck with each other. We HAVE to make it work or there will be nothing left.

my personal goal right now is to do my part to make sure my representatives have the same kind of day I’m having

This is far from important with everything that’s going on but I had an honest-to-god “I think I’m losing it” cackle-laugh at the thought that I’m expected to make video games today.

Trying to find anything to say that isn't a trite, meaningless apology.

Most of us don't want this. But some of us do. And that's damning beyond anything I can think of.

Movies and video games are ridiculous accomplishments. A team of people wanted you to feel something so badly they built an entire world for you to inhabit; adjusting every detail of how that world is presented to help you feel the same way. It's one of the most human things we do. I love it

What a slap in the face for the thousands of qualified designers who are being replaced with contractors.

Man... I thought the Epic layoff was cruel and stupid when it happened.

But guess who is sending recruiters to source year long contract labor for senior design positions? I wonder who could possibly be hurting for senior talent but unwilling to commit to keeping it.

I think that's a core tension with space exploration in general. As far as I'm concerned it's just as relevant a question as it was then- however, today's context does make this feel like "space or nothing" more than I think it might have back then. Just my 2c.

Hope has value tho. So.

Like ra ra go science yay space but also hey maybe let's focus on the planet we are living on? Idk.

It can be both things. Life is not mutually exclusive.

On the one hand, the amount of raw human ingenuity it takes to put a thing in space, let alone living humans, is nothing short of inspiring.

On the other, scientific instutitions have been absolutely gutted in the past year. It's hard to rationalize sending people to the moon now of all times.

I keep prime video on in the background for Noise(tm) and one of the ads that I half pay attention to is for Copilot helping a pizza place manage their books. Literally the tagline is 'Hank handles the pizza. Let Copilot handle the spreadsheeets.'

ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY.

Gender is a costume we wear and I think the reason transphobes are so viscerally upset by it is because they rely on the costume to decide how they get to treat someone. It's deeply rooted in sexism, misogyny, and the dynamics of power associated with gender roles.

The dissonance of wanting everyone who got laid off to find new homes ASAP and also feeling immense pressure to outperform every 10/10 designer out there so I am Chosen for any given role is hard.

I know I'm good at my job but everyone has to be the unicorniest unicorn to land a role right now.

I'm sorry but if you have 4,000 employees and your revenue is 6 billion, you make 1.5 million per employee and if you can't make a profit margin there, you are simply embezzling it.

Carnage. Absolute, unmitigated, existential carnage in the game industry right now.

They give you Super Novacaine and the worst part is the shot. The procedure itself is long and tedious and smells kinda terrible if they use heat to burn out any decay. But painless. And then after that the tooth is technically dead and under a cap so it'll literally never hurt again.

As an American citizen, I ask myself what happens to all the MAGA assholes who voted for and supported this man once he's gone. They aren't going to just evaporate into thin air. We're stuck with 40% of this country being out of their damn minds. I wouldn't trust the collective us either.
