getting some likes on a post but we're doing 198X nuclear brinksmanship again
The James Franco "first time?" meme. A man on a gallows with a noose sanguinely asks a fellow condemned prisoner if it is their first time being hanged.
Gen X watching people freak out about the possibility of nuclear annihilation
“He didn’t literally mean he would wipe out an entire civilization”
Then he shouldn’t have fucking said it.
He’s the President of the United States. He has sole launch authority over the world’s most sophisticated nuclear arsenal, and words mean things.
again very funny to think that a critical pro trump message in 2024 was that he wouldn’t start world war iii
For clarity, this humour is a coping mechanism. Gen X was deeply emotionally traumatized by the constant threat of nuclear annihilation. It sucks and I never thought I would have to go through it again. But here we are.

“A whole civilization will die tonight” is the most vile thing a US president has ever said, certainly during the post-1945 era when they’ve had the power to kill civilizations with the dropping of a bomb. I’m staring into the darkness. May this not be one of the most fateful days in human history.
The response when progressive policies that help millions of people are proposed...
"How will you pay for it?"
The response when the richest 1% ask for tax cuts, or banks ask for bailouts, or defense contractors ask for more contracts...
"How much do you need?"
It doesn't have to be this way.
The universe is a glorious, stunningly beautiful place, and it’s offensive & gross when people produce or share fake space imagery.
There’s a video floating around on here pretending to be the night sky viewed from Mars. It’s extremely fake, has been polluting the internet for years. Don’t share it

I've been sick so I didn't post about my comic page going up yesterday. But it did go up (automation, baybee).
Page 163, go read it.

(1) The accused declared, ordered, or otherwise indicated that there shall be no survivors or surrender accepted; (2) The accused thereby intended to threaten an adversary or to conduct hostilities such that there would be no survivors or surrender accepted; (3) It was foreseeable that circumstances would be such that a practicable and reasonable ability to accept surrender would exist; (4) The accused was in a position of effective command or control over the subordinate forces to which the declaration or order was directed; and (5) The conduct took place in the context of and was associated with hostilities.
✋ Former USG war crimes lawyer here.
Apropos of SecDef's remarks this morning:
Denial of quarter—even the declaration of no quarter—is a war crime.
And recognized as such by the US Government.
From DoD's Manual for Military Commissions.
I finally lost my shit about so-called AIs, LLMs, enshittification & everything fucking evil that @officialgrammarly.bsky.social is doing. I'm fucking furious, and not just about what 1 company has done. An open letter to Grammarly & the rest of the LLM hype machine www.moryan.com/an-open-lett...
US watching a movie where a vigilante’s entire family is wiped out: “Oh yeah, time for fucking vengeance, this dude will never stop. Get them!”
US watching Iran pick a Supreme Leader who just had his entire family wiped out: “This guy is plainly going to be reasonable and fold.”

And here is what it is VERY important to remember. Because our nation is so deeply divided elections are won at the margins. This act will not make it burdensome for tens of millions of people to vote. Nor does it have to. Trump won in 2016 due to 70 THOUSAND votes, not 70 million. If only 3-5%
Trump says US Navy sank Iran's warship off the coast of Sri Lanka because "it's more fun" to sink ships than capture them.
Kansas City before and after highway construction.
There were a ton of beautiful dense American cities built prior to the invention of the Automobile, with cheap and efficient streetcars for transit.
We tore them down in the name of "Slum Clearance" to build highways and parking lots.
Still crazy that the president’s lawyer spent two days with Ghislaine Maxwell, she “cleared” him of wrongdoing and was almost immediately transferred to a more pleasant prison and nobody in the administration will explain it and the media acts like two large dots are just impossible to connect.
“Almost all the 165 people killed in the attack were girls aged between seven and 12, according to local officials. There were around 170 girls at the school in southern Iran’s Minab at the time.“
A double-tap strike on little girls at school.
for those of you who werent adults during iraq, its hard to overstate how much the media loves war porn. they salivate over pentagon spin briefings. they love stories about all the bombs and how supposedly infallible they are. they love the notion of the commander in chief, in the situation room etc
OpenAI is a menace. Two recent stories make that clearer than ever.
One day you have Sam Altman denigrating humanity to defend AI. The next, WSJ reveals OpenAI could have alerted Canadian police of a potential mass shooter, but refused pressure from employees. That person went on to kill 8 people.

It’s a Wonderful Life bank run scene.
“You're thinking of the $175 billion in tariff money all wrong. As if I had the money back in a safe. The money's not here. Your money's in the White House ballroom, the renaming of the Department of Defense, the $10 billion transfer to the Board of Peace, and a hundred other unauthorized actions.”
Be careful, this might be a fake story, I cannot find corroboration anywhere and lots of comments on the TikTok are saying the same thing
Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.
