Bondi is where I have felt safe all my life. How could anyone want to destroy this monument to humanity and joy? | Alice Fraser I can’t bear to view this postcard of Australia, layered with a thousand memories, with untrusting eyes, to feel the air changed and warped by horror

You should read @alicefraser.bsky.social's lovely and sorrowful and human piece on Bondi Beach & then reflect that it's the sort of communication that's only possible when you don't view everything as an online argument that you have to win at all costs.

In one Tory manifesto, I think 2017, they referred to Britain and India has sharing "deep historical and cultural connections" and the Commonwealth an institution "we helped to found"...I write more about this in my book

❌ Let's stop dividing migrants into 'good' vs. 'bad'

Racism and ableism dictate who is seen to fulfil the criteria of the “good migrant” versus the “bad migrant”, and by extension dictate who is deemed “deserving” of rights and respect, and who is deemed “unworthy”.

Agreed, and this is why I think the super rich are very useful for lots of people as a reference point (or guilt release valve?) who can point to them and say: 'I'm not rich, THEY'RE rich'.

Also worth noting that funding of accommodation for those caught in backlog comes from foreign aid budget, so when HO complains it's costly, it's not coming from their pockets

Seriously, fuck Starmer and his hideous, ghoulish cabinet. From this grim decision to Streeting's anti-trans shit, they're just full of spite for vulnerable people. I truly hope they get wiped out at the next election and that the UK gets a proper progressive party in power(sharing?).
