I agree. She gave in way too easy, especially knowing what the Trump presidency would look like.

Dumb, and that's being nice. I'm pragmatic, not crazy.

I'm neither liberal nor centrist.

And you know what I did and did not see... How exactly?

My politics? Lmfao. Okay.

Huh? What are you even talking about?

I can't wait to see what kind of movement will be built by warm and kind people like yourself, and how successful it will be.

And how did that help anything?! They'll just be replaced by MAGA syncopats who will make it all even worse. In fact, reasonable people resigning is what they're counting on, because that leaves absolutely no resistance within the system.

Yeah, so we don't have a choice but to live in this here system. And we can either make it gradually bearable or just let it spin into an even bigger crapshoot than it already is. And it can always get worse.

Okay, who's gonna make them pay and when? Because from where I stand, the only thing that's happening is regular people and minorities you claim to care about are getting brutalized...

I feel like you overestimate how much I care about Kamala in particular vs. how much I'm dreading all the extra work that will have to be done only to undo the damage Trump's 2nd presidency is doing. Her loss literally just added to the already too laundry list of work...

You cannot go more left by removing yourself as a constituent of a major party. The reason the GOP went further right is to pander to their most loyal voter bloc. The most loyal Dem voter bloc are centrists and milquetoast libs, at the moment -- so that's whom they'll pander to.

Were attacks on Kamala Harrisโ€™ record on target? Sen. Kamala Harrisโ€™ record as a prosecutor in California came under sharp criticism at last nightโ€™s Democratic president

>>A spokesperson for Harris was quoted in the article saying, "Senator Harris was shocked and troubled by the use of this argument. She looked into it and directed the departmentโ€™s attorneys not to make that argument again."<<

Also, if you read the article, it was not her making that argument, it was one of many attorneys in her department at the time, who, and I know this will come as a shocker, do not run every single argument they would ever present in court by her.

I did specifically say her voting record (in the Senate), not her AG job... Besides, worry about Bernie striking down the pediatric cancer funding bill just a couple of months ago.

Tell that to conservatives, who party line voted from the center- to far-right party. There are only two (electable) parties in the US, you can either participate and help shift the Overton window OR not participate and help shift the Overton window. And not choosing to participate is still a choice

You can always look up her voting record while she was a senator, you know that, right? She has a more progressive voting record than Bernie Sanders.

Depressingly there is more talk in many places about race and ethnicity, and how certain visible characteristics - most obviously skin colour - define people. This is squarely in the identity discussion; ie, people defining their own identity via these visible characteristics

As far as plots go, this one is harrowing...

In addition to job insecurity and loss of support for scientific research, these cuts have the potential to affect longer-term career plans, trajectories, plans, potential breakthroughs, not to mention effects on mental health.

Recent funding cuts have affected all levels of science, but as we learned from the effects of the pandemic, early career researchers are likely to be the most vulnerable.
